Engine Orientation
 

I am building the Giant Stick with Fuji 32.
The firewall template is designed for inverted mounting of the engine.
Since this plane has no cowl, I would to prefer to mount the engine upright. ( Strictly for looks)
Any problems with this ? By rotating the template 180 degrees the CL will stay the same.

Keep the centerline the same and you will be OK

I've got another suggestion. If you use a dremel with a cut-off wheel, you can remove the shaft from the rear of the Fuji 32 and mount the engine directly to the firewall. By doing that, you'll need a lot less lead in the tail

When engines are entended to be mounted inverted, the motor mount is somethimes positioned a little higher on the firewall so the engine does not stick out the bottom to much so when you spin it 180 degrees you might want to take a look and see if it needs to be moved down a little while still maintaining the center line location. It may be sticking up a little higher than you would like.

This is my first gas burner and I just wanted to make sure that I didn't screw up.
I have been flying the 40 and 60 size stiks for years and looking forward to getting this one in the air.

I like about your idea but it looks like the spacers are necessary for muffler clearance also. Are you using a different muffler ??
Besides, I really like the spring start. I plan to mount my battery pack as far back as necessary for proper CG. I have a rather heavy pack, 2400mah at 8.7 ounces
Might have to make a hatch in the rear part of the fuse.
Also, did you do any extra beefing of the firewall or use it as is. Looks pretty strong with the aluminum angle braces.

You are correct. The original position is too high to mount the engine upright.
I will need to drop it about 3/4 inch which will put the crank line about or just below vertical center of the firewall.

There is around 2 degrees thrust offset built into the firewall so the original horizontal line is 1/4 inch left of center.
I will be able to maintain this without any problem.

OldCoot,

I word of caution if you elect to remove the excess shaft as MinnFlyer suggested, be carefull you don't over heat the shaft and melt the seal. Just cut a little at a time and let it cool for a few minutes.
