Your thoughts on new plane and engine......

1 Attachment(s)
I'm trying to narrow down my choice in 90 size planes. I want something different than the sticks I've been flying. I'm considering the Pacific Models Edge 540T. (http://www.pacaeromodel.com/Edge540/Edge540T.htm) I have the Futaba 148 RX and Hitec HS-6635 digitals, 69 in/oz @ 4.8V for elevators and ailerons. HS-5475 digital, 61 in/oz @ 4.8V for throttle. I need another servo for the rudder. I would stick with digital and probably get the HS-5645MG digital 143 in/oz @ 4.8V. I would use my YS 110FZ with 16X6 APC prop. Looking for any snafu's that may be hidden in that setup.

Sounds to me like you've just about got it all worked out. Your servo selection is excellent. However, you might want to consider running them on six volts, (5 cells) if you're using all digital servos. Digitals drawa little more current than analog. Good luck with your project. You'll love the Edge 540T.

Sounds like a good setup to me.

Take a look at the Skyshark Edge 540. I'm flying mine with a Saito 1.00. Very nice quality ARF. Your YS 1.10 would work just fine.

6 volts provides more speed and torque, but less duration. If you switch from 4.8 to 6 volts you always need to add 25% or more to the battery mAh rating. You seem to have adequate torgue at 4.8 volts, just make sure you use at least an 1100 mAh onboard battery to handle the extra draw of the digitals. If you want to go 6 volts, use a 1500.

Jim

OBTW, the Skyshark weighs the same as the Pacific, but the Skyshark wing is a lot smaller. Which one do you think will land faster, tip-stall easier and fall out of maneuvers more often?

A pal has the Pac-Aero Edge with a Saito 1.00. The ONLY problem he had was routing the exhaust out of the huge, deep cowl.

The plane is of top-shelf quality, and flies very well with no bad habits.

I got had the PAM Edge, very nice to build and nice to fly, mine had a G90 and it sucked, my pal put in the SA100 and it was good stuff, I got a YS110 and if you put that in it will be NUTZ!!! Go for the PAM Edge, the Aeroworks one has some structural problems, they may have sorted it out by now. The 1 piece wing caused the fuse to be weak at the point where the 2nd former is, or was that on the 40 sized plane? I forgot.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm still thinkging..... I'm looking at the Sig Mayhem also. I know it's not an Edge and not near a "PURTY" but the edge would require me to buy another digital servo and costs about $70 more.

The Mayhem needs at least 70 in/oz on the ailerons and elevator and 90 on the rudder. If I went with a 6V battery it would up the power to 83 in/oz @ .15 sec. Would that be close enough? And would I need another charger for the 6V battery?

I really wanted the Fliton 330 like you have but all say the YS 110 is too much for it and thats why I'm shopping for another plane now. Too bad cause I loved the way the 330 looks.

My dad has the mayhem. It's actually a pretty sweet looking plane. Very nice flier, and will make anyone look like a 3d artist! 83 oz/in on the rudder would probably be sufficient if you didn't jack the throws up all the way. Just put them on the low rates and you could do plenty with the plane to keep you busy. If you want the highest throws possible, and want to hook the pull pull onto the end of the servo horn and inside of the rudder horn, then you'd better go ahead and get the extra high torque servo--just for the insurance!
