RE: Looking for a Bipe
Hi "oldCoot", If you can find one, I think the best flying bi-plane on the market is a "Giant Scale Aeromaster." If you can't find one of those then I would suggest the Great Planes Steerman, 120 size. Either one of these is a good airplane for anyone without Bi-Plane experience. If you have experience flying "Bipes", then by all means get the Ultimate, or the GP Pitts. Both of these fly great but are not as forgiving as the Aeromaster, or Steerman. I've owned all of them and sold everyone except the Aeromaster. Good luck with your choice, and welcome to the world of "Bipes."

RE: Looking for a Bipe
I would stay away from a Pitts or a Christian Eagle until you have some biplane experience! As Bob states above the GP Stearman is a good first bipe and the Ultimates are excellent. My first bipe was a CG Ulty and I had a lot of great flights with it. World Models has an Ulty in every size. The Aeroworks birds are good but are built on the lite side. Does not take much to doink them. The CG is pretty beefy. Good Luck in your decision!

RE: Looking for a Bipe
Chip Hyde Double Vision. It's big enough and a very good flyer. Very forgiving, easy to land.
It's not scale, but flies better than any scale biplane I can think of. |
RE: Looking for a Bipe
Kangke Waco,Very easy flyer, will do sweet aerobatics, only need a 2.4(40cc) gas motor.Builds nice and cool to look at.

ORIGINAL: Bob Laine Hi "oldCoot", If you can find one, I think the best flying bi-plane on the market is a "Giant Scale Aeromaster." I've owned all of them and sold everyone except the Aeromaster. Good luck with your choice, and welcome to the world of "Bipes." I second the Giant Aeromaster. You'll have to hunt for a used one and a seller willing to ship it. It's LARGE! It's my first giant scale and my first bipe and it's a SWEETEHART! Mine came with a 41cc US Engines 2 cycle. It flies slow, does very nice aerobatics, is a puddytat to land ... just a nice, nice plane. It won't 3D, but that wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted a nice, forgiving flyer that would ease me into giant planes and I got everything I wanted and then some. If you're willing to build you might find a kit out there. I haven't seen a Great Planes Stearman fly yet, but it looks like it might fill the void in their line when they discontinued the Giant Aeromaster. BobbyG |
RE: Looking for a Bipe
Have you considered a Sig Sun Dancer? I have been flying mine for over 18 mo. now and have enjoyed each flight,(50+) Plane has a DA50 ,3W 22-8 prop, 4 hitec5625s on ailerons 2 5625s on elevator, 1 5645 on rudder. I think one is for sale over on the giant aircraft for sale page.

RE: Looking for a Bipe
I appreciate all the replys and information ! Yes, this will be my first bipe.
I am an intermediate pilot. I have one gasser, Giant Stik. The rest of my stuff is 90 size glow. Looks like I may decide on the GP Stearman. It fits my budget and I already have a G26 that should work nicely on it. Not interested in 3D. Definitely want ARF in any case. Thanks, Dan |
