GP Tiger Moth upgrade?
 

It took about 45 hours to do, but after stripping all the Monocote off of my GP Tiger Moth, installing "near to scale" DuBro 4-40 pull-pull systems, and recovering in Nelson LiteFab, I am pleased with the results.

The rudder tiller arm is fabricated out of 1/8" aircraft aluminum driven by two HiTec 425 BB servos, and the vertically mounted elevator tiller is a CB associates located in line with the rear cockpit bulkhead low in the fuse with a Hitec 70oz. 605BB. I had to install panels in the bottom of the fuse to access both the elevator tiller and the cable exit points on the side of the fuse.

The remodel also allowed me to lower the fuel tank to the correct elevation which cured my little flooding problem. I haven't weighed it yet, but I think I probably gained at least a pound on the model.

I flew the (re)model this morning, and found it to be slightly more "draggy" with the fabric and extra cabling, but it was no problem for the Saito 150 to tote it around, and pretty much behaved like it always has.

It was quite a project, actually. Here are a few photos of the finished product. I still have to trim the model out with some more striping and lettering.

Your remodeled Tiger Moth looks great. I too decided to recover mine but I didn't go to the extra trouble that you did to reconfigure/redesign the control system. What do you have for power? What does it weigh? I haven't been able to successfully attach a photo to my reply so you can see my recovered Moth in my gallery on RCU

Do you guys still fly at the field just east of the lsnd fill? I flew with the Tailwinds in the 70's and 80's when I was stationed at Edwards AFB. Understand the town has grown quite a bit. It was a small town of about 60,00 when I was last there.

Your Tiger Moth is purty. That's a nice scheme. I was considering a sunburst scheme as well, but I just don't know what to do with it yet. I guess I'm taking a break and just thinking about different options for the trimming... Seriously considering masking tape and paint. Those A-10s sure look great!

I have a Saito 150 in my Moth, and it weighs about 10 1/2 to 11 lbs. now. (Bathroom scale method) Seems I gained about a pound or so with the remodel.

I have never flown at the Tailwinds field. We do most of our flying at 110th west and Ave. J. The area has indeed grown... I think Lancaster is about 140,000 now, and it's not all for the better to be sure. It was about 49,000 when I first started paying attention to signs back in the 60s.
