GP Ultimate Biplane

Got one for Christmas (thank you sweetheart :-) Great building on their part, the finish is perfect. Now.. what engine to use.. the manaual says that the DA 50 is not recommend as it over powers it, ( I have a new one in the box.... bummer) I also have a new Saito 180, but I would really like to use smoke on this one so I am guess it should be 2 stroke to get any real smoke. So...they recommend a 160, but I think I would like a bit more than that and I was thinking that dealing with the glitch problems from ignition type engines is not fun either.. What would you guys recommend? Don't care how much it costs really. I just used a Brisson engine in my 1/4 scale GB (adrian page kit) but I have not run it yet. GP recommend the 43 (?) Fuji, and I have a 50 Fuji in my GP Chrisian Eagle (also never started that one yet, lol) but as I said, I was thinking that a large displacement 2 stroke glow engine would be nice.. low wieght, no ignition and it should make good smoke (or not?). If I do use the DA 50, could I not prop it right to get good vertical with less air speed.. maybe a 3 blader?

Any help is appreciated.. by the way anyone got this bird yet... any improvements required on the engineering end of things?

Best regards,
Randy

If you are wanting to stick with a large 2-stroke glow engine, and think the 1.60FX is less than what you want - try a Moki or Mark 2.10 - chiefaircraft.com or morrishobbies.com carry them. The Marks are the same basic engines, rebadged for US distribution from what I have heard.

To the Saito 1.80 you have - it would be a decent candidate - and I've seen smoke on one and it looked fine - you need to create a pre-hearter coil in the muffler before it dumps out to let the smoke oil heat up good.

www.rcdon.com has a good how-to on this process - click on Aircraft Videos then on supersmokers part 1 and then 2.

Here is a great thread on that very plane

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_32..._1/key_/tm.htm

Use the DA50. They ahve been coming out way heavy. Mine is 16lbs with a Brison 3.2 and was the same weight with the Fuji 43

The 3.2 brison was a great match and really allows this plane to do what it can do
