81" Hangar 9 P47

I have just seen the new H9 P47 at my LHS. What an imposing machine. They come complete with retracts and oleos, dummy engine, scale prop and many other detail items. Does anybody have or know of one of these currently under construction or flying?

I will revisit the shop and ask as to the possibility of taking a few shots for the forum.

The one I saw stated on the box that it was designed for a Saito 1.80 or a Zenoah G26. For an 81" warbird I think that I would prefer a G38.

I just got back from the LHS and I must say I'm very impressed with this new warbird. They actually had 2 of these beasts on the shelf. The guy at my LHS was good enough to let me open the box and check out all the bits and peices. The retract units are very solid without being overly heavy, the dummy radial engine looks great and the engine cowl is big enough to loose a G38 and just about any muffler you could think of. All in all its a well built and well thought out ARF, the only thing I didn't like was the colour scheme.

The Horizon website says that they won't be available until mid Feb. How did your LHS get any? Let me know where and I will buy 1 from them.

Both posters that saw them in shops, are in Austrailia. I am sure they have a different importer than here in the US.

True, though they are branded Hangar 9 and imported, I think, by Modelflight in Adelaide, South Australia (or their distribution company).

The LHS was [link=http://www.rcwarehouse.com.au]RC Warehouse[/link] in Brisbane, Queensland. They had two in stock but one has already been sold and there are a few people with their eyes on the other.

Mr Hangar 9, how about a few more ARF's in this size range. A Zero and a FW190A would be guaranteed to make a deep hole in my finances.

Not to complain......but on the Horizon website, it now says Mid-MARCH:(:(:(:(:

Guess that gives me another month to save up enough for the engine!

Mid March?? Bugger.

I am attaching a couple of shots taken at [link=http://www.rcwarehouse.com.au]RC Warehouse[/link] on Saturday.

One is of Tim (KatanaMadMan) ogling the P47 and the other is my pathetic attempt to fit the whole box in.

Pics taken using my phone camera,,, sorry. I will take the digital camera in early in the week and ask if they will let me unpack it a little.

I like the look of this plane for what it is. However, I was leaning towards a MVVS 1.6 gasser.

We have the G26 already. Brand new in the box.. So all we need is the plane...

I want this plane! Do you think the MVVS 1.6 is OK for this plane? I was leaning toward a G-26 myself but I do have an MVVS 1.6 in a Katana that I do not fly. I could take the gear out of that and put into the P47 (whenever they show up in the US).

RE: 81" Hangar 9 P47

I would bet it would be just fine.. My friend has a Midwest T6 about the same size, probably weighs a bit more though. He has a old YS 120sf in it and rips the plane around just fine. When he does his low passes, full throttle, gear up. The sound of the prop goin supersonic is just awesome!!!:D. Can't wait to see this plane!!

I would think that the MVVS 1.6 would be awesome. Same power as a G-38 but less weight than a G-26... a lot less. Plus the beam mounting makes it extremely easy to mount.

RE: 81" Hangar 9 P47

I have a feeling this bird is going to need some extra weight in the nose. A lot of warbirds do. I wouldn't be too concerned about finding the lightest gasser available. I look forward to more reports from you gents down under.

R/C Foolish 01-11-2006 06:15 AM

RE: 81" Hangar 9 P47

I was thinking the same thing. That is why I originaly thought of the G-26, but I do have an MVVS 1.6 I am not using.

What to do? Guess it doesn't really matter until plane is released in the states. HORIZON, WHAT IS THE HOLD UP???????????//
