CMPro Lancair
 

Guys ... just seen the new CMPro Lancair, she is superbly built. The fuse is made of glass and its not heavy at all. The wings have glass tips and are built up. The horizontal stabs are like the GP one. The exits for the ele and rud are ready made, its a pull-pull rudder. Glass work is really superb and so is the paint job (no bleeding of the lines and there is some fading artwork to give it contrast), it looks much better in real than at the website. I will get some pics up later this week. Its amazing how much better the planes from China are nowadays.

I'm a big fan of CMPro ARFs, I have three -- Super Chipmunk 40, Katana 50, and the Staudacher 300.

I am seriously looking to buy this plane as I think it looks really cool in the USA colours. I saw a GP Lanciar fly with an electric motor and it really looked good in the air. The guy said it flies sweet. Of course, to me, if it isn't smoking, it's broken, so I'll go for a four stroke.;)

Okay ... let me try to see my pal tonight and take some pics!!! I had the GP Lancair, its a great plane to fly scale ... lovely looking. I hope to get my pal out tomorrow morning to fly the CMPro one and I will let you know how she flies. I would love to get it but I think not. :) Oh yes ... GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT

I am also looking at the CMP version of the Lancair as a little brother to my GP Lancair. I have two of the GP models and they are the best flying planes in my hanger. I repainted the second model in the "Patriot" paint scheme. This scheme is used on a full scale two seater Lancair owned by Ron Brice.

Okay guys ... enjoy this ... that's my pal tuning the plane whilst I hold it ... its a small plane and flies really nice, about the same as the GP one. Turns are so smooth and so are the rolls. This is a fast plane, get a nice OS50SX into her turning a 11x7 and this will be a nice plane for pylon racing. Its a little hot for landing as the plane does not bleed off speed fast. This plane only needs a 46 2C, a 4C may not be good as it will spoil the cowling lines. This plane had a 46 2C mounted on its side.

Why do you say a 4C enfine will spoil the lines? Will the head stick out? How about a Pitts muffler on a 46 2C?

The bottom or the chin of the cowling is steep ... the cheeks are wide nice for a 46 but I think a 4C will potentiall stick out because of the rocker arm cover. Your standard 46 2C is about under 70mm high whilst something like the SA56 is already 87mm. Does that answer the question that I asked for? Hehehehe ...

I think the Pitts will be ok, as you can see a side mounted 2C with the stock muffler looks so so ... or decent enough. Pitts will be cool but I am not sure if only the stinger/pipes will be the only thing that clears the cowl, might be a portion of the muffler too. Glad you liked the pics.

If at all possible, can you try to get the inside measurement of the cowl for me? from top to bottom, side to side and firewall to spinner. If not possible, it's fine! You were very helpfull with the pics so far!

I will try to see how much clearance there is with the current 46 2C but the owner, who builds planes very often, says a 4C engine will stick out. :)

Hey all- I am just stepping in to ask a question. What is the dry weight of this model. The manufacturer says 5.5Lbs. But I have one RTF and it weighs 8Lbs.

At this point I am afraid to fly it because it is so overweight...

In the Orient, the weight of the model is typically given without the engine and radio. It is the assembled weight of what you get in the kit box, nothing more. If they say 5.5 pounds, then 7.5 to 8 pounds is about right for the dry weight RTF.

Jim - I am not sure where you came out with that notion. CMPro planes are almost on the dot, just keep to the higher figure. WM planes are pretty accurate. TT is the same ... so which ones are given as 'empty'? The CMPro Lancair is about 5.5 - 6 lbs. Look at the size of the plane, you have to be kidding me that it will fly with an AUW of 8 lbs! Anyone ever flown a 40 sized 7.5 lbs aerobatic plane? I would love to see one fly.

The interesting thing is I have added nothing to the model but engine and radio gear. I do not see how this model can possibly have an RTF weight of 5.5lbs.. On the other hand I was suprised when I first weighed it...

If anyone gets a chance to get some weight info please let me know..

Does the paint hold up? I've read about the paint that CMP uses (at least used on the Mosquito, but thats an older model) doesn't really hold up that well against fuel.

The paint is really good and its no way like the Mosquito ... let's see:

- the red stripe is faded in the centre bit and goes a little pink, kinda like airbrush;
- the stars are done ala' airbrush with some pink splatters in it;
- a clear coat is given and even the sticker/decals are below that;
- glass work is superb, comparable with the GP Lancair (I mean it).

She looks heck of a lot better in real than in the ad. It is a small plane. I don't think I will be able to get a video up. Having owned the GP one before and then try this one out I have to say the smaller one is nippy and does fly very well.

What do you mean by "nippy"? Does that mean it is snappy, quick on the controls, a little skidish, or all of the above?:D

Nippy means agile and fast, NOT snappy. She is a nice flying plane. This is the best piece of work from CMPro, best of their latest planes, even the Quest or Leo is not as well built (okay this one is a fibreglass fuse but I loved the paint job).

What are the recommended servos? Any standard gear will fit?
