Hanger 9 .40 size CUB
 

I am so tempted to place my order for this now, even if it is not due to be released
until March! It sure looks top notch!

I don't know why I am so into Piper Cubs! I have a Great Planes .40 size Piper Cub
now, but the Hanger 9 looks so much better.

I just may have to secure my place in line to get one with the old Credit card!

There's something about a Cub..... The new version H-9 does look good, I like the way they changed the center section and made it a two-piece wing. I have the older version and it is a great-flying and looking ARF, I imagine this one will be, too. I also have a Sig 1/5 that I fly, and have a BUSA 1/4 scale in the box, so I'm with you, don't know why I like them so much.

As much as they do to make it look good, I wish they'd put a fabric cover on it, like GP did theirs (but that one is d/c, isn't it)

I have the old Hangar 9 Cub, and it flys great. A two piece wing would be a real nice plus!

I was doing some reading about it, and the new one looks great! The only thing is that IMO a cub should have a 4 stroke instead of a 2. I like the evolution engines O.K, and I am sure it will do a great job on that Plane, but the 4 stroke sound just goes perfect with any Cub. I have a 52 Magnum 4 stroke on my H9 80" Cub, and the head sticking out even matches up well with the dummy engine on the other side. Regardless, the Plane does look nice, and the price don't look bad either for what you get!

Iam fairly happy with my Great planes version with fabric covering. On the Tower web site
the Great Planes version says it is in stock if you type in "Great Planes Piper Cub" I have been
meaning to call them to find out if they actually do have it. I still like the Hanger 9 version.

I think with few modifications the hanger 9 version could look very scale.

Speaking of that four stroke...I have an OS 70 that's currently on a Spacewalker...but it'll soon be in that Cub---hence the purchase of the ARF version will be in order. Anyone have an idea on who's floats I should use...I've been dreaming of a Cub on floats since I first spotted the add for this baby....:D

I just picked mine up yesterday at the LHS. $400 out the door. I love Cubs -- got 200+ hrs in a full scale J-3 that my father owned from about '65 'til '94. I built and flew the Sig 72" back in the 70's, and still have the first edition of Sig's 1/4 scale in the box. I also have the Hanger 9 ARF w/ a Saito 56 and a World Models 1/4 scale ARF that I just bought. OS 120'll go in that. But when I saw Hanger 9s new "Plug-N-Play" J-3 I placed the order. It's about as close as you're gonna get to RTF. Just add transmitter and receiver and you're ready to go.

Some comments after looking it over pretty carefully:
Workmanship, wood quality, gluing and covering plus servo/radio installation are all first rate.
Scale? Well, it's OK; there's no trouble telling what it is, but none of 'em are going to look real scale until the mfrs cover the vertical fin/ fuselage interface in a single piece like the full-scale. Look at a real one, and then at all the ARFs/RTFs on the market. It's particularly frustrating here because the plane comes w/ the vert fin already installed, but not correctly covered. Plus the tailwheel's all wrong. But it's got airfoil metal struts and jury struts. All this bolts together. The two-piece wing is nice, as is the two-piece horizontal stab, though I'm not gonna use that feature. It's OK around the windshield /cabin area, but missing the wing braces inside the windshield and of course all wrong w/ the window frames. Door outline can easily be added. The N number on the wing's on the top of the left wing rather than the right!!! and no N number on the bottom of either wing. But I got this as a "look like" flyer, not a scale contest plane.
Engine/cowl. The cowl fit is good. But I'm going to have to cut it at the bottom where it goes to the muffler cutout so I can get the cowl on and off w/o removing the needle valve, and hog out the cut to the pressure line to get to it to fill the tank. All the engine mounting bolts and mount bolts etc look much better than the normal H9 hardware. I agree w/ the comment about Cubs and 4-strokes, but I'll live w/ the Evo here.
The instructions, such as they are, are OK if you have some building experience, because there's really not too much to do. Lots of steps for things that are already installed -- the strut brackets/support anchors are a good example. But I expect that when I can get to it on Monday or Tuesday, I'll be able to get it all put together in no more than 3 hours.

I'll let you know if I run into any glitches in assembly and how it flies as soon as I can.

But all in all, it looks like a great job at a very reasonable price, and I recommend it.

Oops. Forgot to mention -- the gear and the wheels look really great! No aftermarket gear necessary here!
