Thinking about the Kyosho Gee bee ARF, and wondering if anybody is flying one?
what engine to use?...I was thinking about a 4 stroke.
How well do they fly,and the quality of the kit.

Thanks, :)

Hi Bill!

I have family out in Graham! I just purchased one of these Saturday and did a search on here that about scared me to death. Everyone was overpowering them. I'm putting an OS .52 FS on mine. Building it by the book.

The kit is absolutely gorgeous! If I get a chance to fly it on Friday I'll report back!

Te reason everyone is overpowering them is they are flying pigs. I have seen 2 of them here and totally disappointing. You will be too after your first flight. If you get the itch to get Kyoshos F-86,it is even worse. No power

are you saying disappointing even with the enging size the kit calls for?

Cyclic,

What altitude are you flying at? I often wonder if this is why we see conflicting reports. I have read about a couple of people flying them successfully and enjoying them on the recommended engine size. I may find that it needs more power and if that is the case I will come back and say so on this thread.

If I want to fly a guided missle, I'll pull out the quickee. If I want to hover and 3-D, I'll pull out the heli. I want to fly it for what it is, a good looking sport-scale model.

Again if it is lacking in power and can not get out of it's own way, I'll let ya'll know.

Mikey, ( Cyclic ), is in Albuquerque, and their field is at 5500 ft. When I bring stuff there to fly, I make sure that it has enough power. At that altitude the sink rate is higher, and the landing speeds are proportunately higher.

Down here in Tucson, we are at 2500 ft, and the little Kyosho devil doesn't do too badly. I power mine with a little Thunder Tiger .46 Pro, and it seems to get the job done.

Go figure ?

Jim- Mr Corsair is getting silly here and is getting ready to come down but beware, he is still wearing hats with picture of planes he does not have---------anymore :D

 Wow,

The field I'm going to be flying from is at 650' msl. On a very hot summer day we have been known to approach 4000' in air density but still nothing close to 5500'.

I'm hoping this is the reason we are seeing the difference. If it isn't I have a .80 four stroke I can put in it.

You know I never gave a 4 stroke a thought. That could be the answer.

Brian, i am flying one with a YS63 in it and it is a bullit. It will do very large loop's aat half throttle an is one of the nicest arf's i have put together.I don't know the altitude but is in Columbus Ohio. Tim.

Hi all Pippy here, has anybody had any problems wiyh tip stalling on landing. My CG is at about 50mm and I have discovered the lateral balance needs about 1 1/2 oz. oat the tip of the left wing .

Mine fly's like a dream on an old OS 45 FSR. Fast but not too fast. And I fly it like you'd fly the full scale, full power, low and banked, just like around the pylons. Bear to land though, the gear greats havoc... And I have no plan to put a bigger motor in it!

Mine flys great with a Saito .72. It also balanced with no lead. The bad thing on these is the landing. The wire gear is to soft. Straight into the wind is fine, Crosswind are another story, The rudder loses control at slow speeds and mine flat turns into the wind. If you have enough speed for the rudder to work the gear flexes and the wheel pants dig in. Other than that it's fun to fly.

I just picked up one used with a Magnum 52 fs in it... It has never been run or flown. I checked everything out and seems to be set up fine. I don't have the books. Was wondering what eveyone set up the throws at and the CG at from leading edge. Did you balance upside down or rightside up?

Balancing these upside down or right side up... Book doesn't say?? Wanted to fly tonight but no sute of which way to balance.

Today was the day. The Gee Bee had it's maiden flight. 2 flights on the Gee Bee, Motor was making a weird sound so took it home and have to take a look at it tonight. I have a Magnum 52 in mine. It is enough to fly the plane but would love to have more power. I will fly it with it for now, but will replace it with a 72 fs for sure. As far as trim adjustments I only needed 2 clicks of down and it was hands off. Didn't really get to do much with it because of the motor not running real well... Didn't want a dead stick. Any how they do fly and fly well at that!!!

I know this is an old thread but, you might reply if you go through this. I decided to install a rear brace coming off of the main gear to a point close to the treailing edge. I braised a couple of washers to a length of 1/8 music wire. One end washer slips over the axle, goes through the wheel pant , passes through the rear fairing and that end washer fastens flat to a square of plywoodon the bottom of the wing with a hidden nut . Quite a project but it sure stiffins up the landing gear. no back and forth sway on the main gear at all. Running a ST .61 and it balanced with 2 and a half ounces of lead in the nose. You guys say it flys swell, sure hope so, lot of modification on this one. MormonMike.

RE: Kyosho Gee Bee

Hi all,

I have the Kyosho Z model with a Magnum .61 4 cycle. It flys very SCALE-LIKE, it isn't a 3D machine (although my first flight with too much elevator throw DID look 3D at times!). It will do 100' loops and the prettiest slow rolls you could want. Oh yes, and by the way, my home field is Precott AZ at 5500 feet! If the plane's scale is 1/8th, 300 MPH is only 37.5 and though I cannot measure how fast my plane goes at full throttle, I suspect it is in the 60 to 70 mph range. The 1/8th scale was just a guess but you see what I mean. The plane's purpose in life was to "go fast and turn left" perhaps with a victory roll or two.

Thanks and enjoy SCALE flying.

Good luck trying to find parts for Kyosho Gee Bee. The home website isn't one bit helpful and Tower no longer carries the line.

If you need a set of NIB wheel pants and new landing gear wires let me know ....I ordered an extra set when I bought the plane ...The plane died because of pilot error and a tail heavy CG

Sorry about your loss autoguns. I just might take you up on your offer. I need a cowl too. I've fixed it a couple times but it's just beyond fixing this time. My damage came from nosing over on landing. We have a dirt runway and at 5500 ft. you can't slow down too much because that full scale THIN air just won't let the plane fly too slow.

The plane is a hoot and everyone sits down to watch. Got an old WWII aviator in the club who knew Dolittle and talked with him about flying the Gee Bee. This old guy is a walking history book. He flew Hurricanes in England during the war.

Do they still make this plane?

If so where can you get it?
