HELP! H9 Edge 540 Servos
I need some help deciding on which servos to use in my H9 Edge 540. What are most of the other guys out there using? It has split elevator servos so I'll be using 2 there. It has a pull-pull setup on the rudder. I'm looking at the 77 oz. in. servos for most control surfaces except the rudder where I'll use a 106 oz. in. servo. Does this sound like it will be alright or do I need to go with 106's all the way around? I don't plan on doing any 3-D with the plane just mostly loops and rolls. I'm not sure anyway as to what maneuvers are considered as 3-D anyhow. Any help on getting this right is appreciated as I'd hate to lose my new plane. BTW I'll also be using a Saito 1.80 for power if that needs to figured in the equation. THANKS!

HELP! H9 Edge 540 Servos
I have Hitec 5645 servos on mine. 2-Elev, 1 ea, ail., 1-rudder.
The rudder is extremely strong. Chances are your servo choice will be OK. I don't think I need all the servo power I have on this plane. |

HELP! H9 Edge 540 Servos
8101's on all but the rudder. Use a 4721 for that. Standard servo 537 is fine for the throttle. These are Horizon's recommendations and I have had two set up this way and it all works great.

HELP! H9 Edge 540 Servos
Hitec 545's are more precise than 605's. The pot and cicuitry are not as accurate in the 605 and won't center as well (per tech at Hitec). My own experience backs this up. If you're running 2 servos in the tail for the elevators you don't need all that torque. 425's would probably be fine especially if you don't go with 3D throws and keep the servo with a short arm and a mechanical advantage. That would still give you 86 oz combined on the elevator. Goin' 3D, 545's are plenty. 100 oz on the rudder is good.

HELP! H9 Edge 540 Servos
I'm installing 605's/645 in my H9 Edge. After reading this, and pondering though, I've already modified the plane for dual elevator servos, and have been thinking that 2 605's are overkill on elevators. I just might step down to 425's, or 545's.
I'm using these same servos in a Midwest Extra with no prob. I've been wringing it out pretty good too. The experience I've had with them in an Extra is what I based my decision on for my Edge. |
