Two new ARF"s
 

I was at the Pasadena trade show last Saturday with some friends and saw several new arf planes.
Pacific Aeromodel Mfg., Inc. had two planes I must have!
One is a 82" Gee Bee Y with a Saito 180, fiberglass pants and cowl all painted and has a 10" wide firewall.
Will be available in about a month, $429.00

The other plane is a 78" Tiger Moth, had a OS 120 mounted.
It's dark green and yellow, has all the flying wires and the entire tail is pull-pull cable.
Will be available in about a month, $399.00

Hobby People displayed there new 40 size Mustang with military finish, all sheeted wing with retracts installed. Looked pretty good. Not yet available, will sell for $199.99

Altech Marketing will soon have a beautiful 50 size SU 31 Sukhoi.

The GeeBee sure looks like it was well built. I like this picture.

Notice the car (less driver) is about to make a sharp left turn and run OVER that neat plane?

AND......

Anyone who would own a RED corvette w/o a WHITE interior, is...well let's just say they aren't the sharpest pencil in the drawer <g> :):)

Well I took a look at it at the Pasadena show and although very impressive in size and construction, the covering material lacked luster. It was similar to the old covering materials that came from China that were semi-gloss in nature and were not heat activated but almost like shelving paper. I had a large scale Citabria that had this same type of finish.

I am not saying however that the material they used to cover the GeeBee is exactly that contact-paper like material. What I am pointing out is at least at the Pasadena show, the covering just didn't have the shine of Monokote or Ultracote. Maybe the production versions will be up to their normal standards.

The Tiger Moth however had a very reflective and shiny surface; looks like Monokote. This beast would be perfect if they had covered it with fabric......Pacific Models, are you listening???

Whoa... nice plane. I dig it.

FWIW - That picture with the vette has been heavily (and poorly) altered. Look at the bricks in the wall.. and the smudges around the rear of the car. Maybe the wall had some graffiti on it or something. ;)

Is it me or does that look like the steering wheel on the right hand side of the dash?

either the went England to buy a Vette with the cockpit on the right and then had Horizon sell them a special Saito that tuns to the right, and mounted a pusher prop. Or!! the pic was flipped.

Ahh yes... I should have picked that up sooner... what with all the obvious photo retouching.

File > Open > Wcar > Image > Rotate Canvas > Flip Horizontal.

Gotta Love Photoshop! Maybe they should have done a better job with the editing of the bg.

Covering

The covering on the Gee Bee and the Tiger Moth are exactly the same. UltraCote. Perhaps the difference is in the fact that the Tiger Moth on display had not been flown, but the Gee Bee that was there is the first prototype. It's been flown, dinged, flown some more, dinged some more and then hastily cleaned up for the show.

The Gee Bee the customer gets will look as shiney as the Tiger Moth. :D

I talk to them this week..It is covered with Ultracote, which is fine with me....really don't care for "Shelf" paper covering.......

As soon as they are available and I don't know when that will be, my friends and I will be ordering four of them.
Mine will have a Saito 180 GK hauling it around.

I also attended the IMS show. I agree with the initial prototype, the covering was a little dull. Not surprising for a beta version though. Both the Gee Bee abd the Tiger Moth were exceptional. Here is a photo of the Gee Bee.

I just called Pacific Aeromodels about the new planes.
the Tiger Moth is due in by the end of this month and the Gee Bee Y is due the end of March.
$399 for the Moth
$429 for the Y

Pacific Gee Bee Y or Ikon Gee Bee E
 

Did anyone end up getting one of the Pacific Gee Bee Y's? I was considering getting an Ikon Northwest Gee Bee E but through searches done here am afraid it might be beyond my current building abilities. I would appreciate any feedback on the building and flying of either of these planes along with engine choices. :)
