Which Cub to buy?
I am wanting to purchase a 80" J-3 Cub. I plan to run an OS 70 4-stroke. I am looking at either the 81" Great Planes ARF or the Hangar Nine ARF Cub that is 80". The Great Planes has been out of stock, but is now available. The Hangar 9 is a new design, being 80". The Great Planes is fabric covered and a one 1 pc. wing while the Hangar 9 is film covered with a two pc. wing.
Any thoughts???? Thanks, Ed |

The Great Planes ARF is a perfect choice for your 90 FS. Contrary to the previous report, the fabric looks great and it is Coverite Cub Yellow. It needs no top coat since it is a painted finish - looks great after 4 years of hard service. It can be easily patched with off-the-shelf Coverite. I think the Hangar 9 cub looks too shiny. Whatever Cub you build, I suggest you build about 1" total dihedral into the wing to avoid having it look like it's drooping - flies better too. That's easier to do with a one-piece wing.

Sorry - I said 90FS. I meant to say 70 FS.

Much as I think a Cub needs fabric on it, I like the new H-9 Cub. The struts are functional and the scale detail is VERY nice, plus the 2-piece wing is very convenient. That's where my money would go. I have the older version, with a .72 Saito and floats, it's a great flying plane.
