Engine/Servo Advice for Creek Hobbies ARFS
I have a Creek Sukhoi that I am putting together. I am considering a fast standard servo like the Hitec 525MG. They are .13 ms with 57oz at 6v. I would use these on the elevator halves and ailerons and a 645MG on the rudder.
Any suggestions/thoughts/comments on this setup? Also, I am trying to decide on power. I have a Moki 1.8, OS 160fx and a Magnum 1.20 4st. Thanks Kspin |

I have a Katana here, also awaiting assembly. Servos for it are JR 8231s on ailerons and elevator, an 8411 on the rudder and a standard BB on the throttle. Power will be an FPE 2.4.
I also just picked up on of their Edge 540s. I have a bunch of Hitec digitals on hand, so it will be getting those. I haven't decided on an engine yet - I want to see how the Katana handles with the FPE first. |

Go with the OS, They spin an 18x8 @ 8400-9000. Should go like a rocket. My friend has one on his H9 Edge @ 12.5 lbs and it has vert with authority.

Sukhoi, Servos
I was going to put Hitec 605s a;; round but the wing bays are only 1"deep which would leave the Hitec 605s sticking way out.
I then bought Low profile HS77BBs but they are too big to go into the bays. Any ideas are welcome..?? Does anybody have info on the CG. Is this an easy ship to land..?? Any info welcome. By he way I have installed a OS FX160 with Pitts style muffler. |

I have the Sukhoi also and am in the same fix. The low profile servos are 23mm wide and wing bay 20mm. You would have to
remove a rib to fit the low profiles in. Anyone find a servo to fit yet? |

Engine: The Magnum 120 4 stroke won't have enough. I have an OS 1.60 on my Creek Staudacher, and it has just about the right power. However, the plane could use a heavier engine for better balance while putting the servos at the tail. I have to have the 2 elevator servos up front to balance out with the OS. The OS would fit into the cowl completely, which is nice. But I wouldn't recommend the OS 1.60 for 3D, because its midrange and throttle resopnse leaves something to be desired. Go with the Moki if you already have it.
Servos: "Hitec 525MG on the elevator halves and ailerons and a 645MG on the rudder" sound good. That's more than what you need, because the control surfaces are terribly huge. I'd recommend using stronger hinges for the rudder though. |

With any luck, I will have my Creek Extra flying this weekend. I have 5925's for the elevator's, 5645 for the aileron's, can't remember what digi for the rudder. An OS 160FX with a pitts style muffler.
The elevator servos are mounted in the rear and the rudder servo is mounted up by the wing tube with kevlar pull-pull. Mike |

i have not worked back on mine since i glued the stab/rudder and fin on. Post some pics if you get a chance. i 2 willl be installing the OS-160 i am looking at running a 18 x 6 prop; i have both the mejzlik and APC to try out. I am going to run a pump on mine and mount the tank of the CG. Did you run accros any snags while building the extra? It seems like a quick building plane. Now that radio set up seems to always slow me down or is it the CG adjustment? What else do you have to do to yours? talk at you soon..... |

seanychen, The 525s are only .3 inch less depth then the 605s and the 605s miss by a long shot. They do not say home much is above and below the mounting tabs so hard to say if it will really fit. You have 7/8ths inch at back of servo bay and 1 inch at front.
Do you have these installed on a Sukhoi? If so I will be purchasing some of these. Thanks. |

I have the Katana and used Hitec 625mg's in the wings and for elevators. They fit without a problem.I'm not sure if the Sukhoi has the same size servo bays. Also,JMO,I don't think the torque on the 525's is enough for any 3D flying.Again,my opion.

Sorry, I have the Staudacher. I thought the tail servo mounts are the same for all their planes.

Krazy,
I've taken a few pics along the way and will take some final ones. I'm not all that happy with my results so far. The elevator fiasco bummed me out a little. I installed the pull-pull last night. I used the Kevlar pull-pull, but I think I may switch to cable. I can't see inside the fuse that far back, but I think there is a support (former?) the the cables have to go around. If this is the case, the Kevlar will rub and eventually break. I need a mirror to look farther back. I also noticed (after I put them in of course) that the rudder horns- sullivan 1 1/8" horns would hit the elevators at full deflection. I had to mount them at the very bottom edge of the rudder. It's fine now. I'll post more later. These are all issues with my building in-experience. The kit seems fine. No problems with wing incidence. Mine lined up perfectly just using the pins on the wings. Merry Christmas. Mike |

thanks for the scoop i hope to get some time on the kit over the next few days. i feel i could get it ready to fly pretty quick but just coming back from Japan has me busy with chaging light bulbs and things of that nature around the house. talk at you soooon |

Hey Mike
I cut the covering off the bottom of my plane so I could get access to the fuse and then recovered it.Sounds like a pain, but it made things alot easier.Recovering it wasn't too hard either. While in there,I also installed a tube for my elev. servo leads so they weren't bouncing around the inside of the plane.Just a little tip. Hank How were the glue joints back in the tail?
regards Mark |

Re-covering those Econokote may not be a bad thing. Mine yellow Econokote on the Staudacher is already turning semi-transparent. I already have a roll of yellow Oracover ready to replace it when I finally can't stand it anymore.

i put sometime on the extra last night now i have the firewall fuel proof the wing tube and supports all glued. I need to install the servos, motor, canopy, servo tray, fuel tank and hinges on the ailerons. i need to pick up some hinges for the wings, along with some horns for all the surfaces......

The glue joints didn't look too bad at all.But me being me,I went over them with some thinned down epoxy while I had the fuse open.It also allowed me to make sure the horizontal stab was epoxyed real good.I did a better job than I thought.I can honestly say that these are a real good quaility ARF.I wish it wasn't covered with econocote, but I like it alot. Can't wait for the weather to get better here so I can really test it out. Thanks, Hank. That's a good idea. By shear chance, my servo leads ran under one of the formers, so they don't flop too much. I have plans to secure them in any case.

I have a C H ex330 and put a thunder tiger 120 on it .It has good vertical but not what I would call unlimeted but it does do the job,I had a little trouble with the balance not sure what the cg is exactly but got mine to balance at 4.5in from the leading edge.I used standard bb servos on the elevator and ailrons and high torque on the rudder .it is a great flying plane for the money.it weighed in at just under 10 lbs finished weight. They could have done a much better job on instructions.

Engine/Servo Advice for Creek Hobbies ARFS
a friend of mine had some pin hinges so now i have my ailerons finished. Tomorrow i will mount my OS-160, prop, spinner, and cowl.
jody How has the 4.5" CG worked out for you? I like a plane to fly hands off or very close to it inverted. Mine is weighing 6.5 lbs without the servos and motor/prop/mount/tires. If its that light i may want to put my RCS 1.4 on there. I will have to do some checking into that tomorrow. at that weight i would be bad to the bone with gas...... Has anyone had a chance to see how she does the elevator/blender/waterfalls/harriers? |
