Hi Wolf,

I will take some more measurements later tonight, I think it's unlikely that my plane is a different version with a longer cowl (or recessed firewall) but anything is possible! I think by the look of your pics you have that engine well towards the back, I might have got 1-2mm more but nothing to speak of.

I had a good look at the fues yesterday and I can see it's quite easy to perform the tail servo modification (especially seeing as I haven't glued in my tail section yet). Thanks for posting that tip, it's definately the way to go and looks like it will have better angles of control too!

For those who haven't seen the manual, here's a scan of the section that details the cutouts they recommend for a 2s.... what a mess!

The next RCME (UK magazine) is to have information on venting cowls so that engines don't overheat. When it becomes available, I'll post the text.

my edge is the fist production,bought on june 2002, and i think yours is a new production with 4-5mm of difference in firewall or cowl. my is very lite and in white balsawood.

just for interest we ran a tt46 this afternoon with a range of muflers and pipes
1 std muflar 10x6 ms - 14100rpm
2 macs pipe 10x6 ms - 14380rpm
3 macs header/bolly carbon t/pipe 15700rpm 10x6ms
4 macs header/rossi t/pipe 16200rpm 10x6ms
5 macs/bolly 11x4 ms 15500rpm
6 macs/rossi 11x4ms 15950rpm

big gains with tuned pipes and we have not yet done the fine tuning.

Hi Ducati, why not go for a Magnum or SC 1.20fs? If as wolf says the plane has been redesigned to fit in then why not?

I thought my tailplane looked pretty hefty, maybe they beefed that up too.

Hi Gricer!

I am trying new engines. I was using mostly OS engines and on November I decided to try other engines. I already bought a Magnum which is an incredible engine. This is XLS 40 and runs much better then my OS 46 FX. About the SC, this is the first that I hear about that engine and I am looking for more info. Looks like they are not very popular in the US. I tried to buy the TT, but the order was canceled because they ran out of stock in that store. So, next choice MVVS but for that engine you have to buy the muffler. I went back and took a long look at the OS 91 Surpass, but for USD$25 extra I could get the YS so Y not :)

One other thing I thought of Wolf was that maybe my 120 is not longer than your 90 and it's just the stroke/bore that is bigger. The SC1.20 as you'll see by this photo flairs out quit a bit where the liner and head starts....

guys - sc/asp/ magnum/ leo/ tower/ gms and a few more engines are made in the same factory in china of late they are exact clones of os and even better the parts fit one another and the latest xls/series 3 engines are as good as some of the brands, they take a little longer to run in because they are true abc and not abn like os. we did the test a while ago and swapped pistons, heads barrels etc on 4 - 46's interesting!!

We are getting a little off topic with these 40 size clones. But while we are here: the parts do interchange with OS and they are true ABC but if you look at them closely they do not have the same type of chamfered ports and port design is one secret to power. The Performance Specialities sets make the most power because of thier port timing and port design.....scavaging is the secret my man.

very true - but we were mostly doing it to prove that the chings are cloning- but must tell you that the tests (power) we are doing right now is interesting with the new mag xls 46 sofar way on top

Ok guys I give up..

I am using JR537 bb servos for my elevator and want to put my servos directly across from each other as I have seen here. I really like that set up. BUT,,,, I have measured the clearance and my servo houseings will hit each other on the inside. HELP!!!!!!
This has been driving me nuts(short drive)

Hi guys, finnished fitting the 1.20FS and cowl, just need to do some cleaning up on the cuts with a dremel. As you will see it's not too far out.

Weight seems a little high though, from what I gather people have had to add weight to the front and the battery is mounted way up front so hopefully I'll get away with just mounting this somewhere in the back.

I also performed the Wolf 3D mod to the tailsection but did not check the interior sizing for servos... shockme..... I might consider adding ply on the outside as well to bolster out the servos a bit instead of buying new ones.

I'd say the weight will be high, I'm mostly concerned with balancing the CG side to side. The engine is tall meaning that there is a lot of weight all on one side of the plane.

p.s. does anyone know what size spinner is best for a 15*8 - 18*6 prop? I've been told that Aluminium is best way to go for that size motor. The plastic one that came with the Edge would just about need to be cut in half by the time I've fitted it to the prop :-)
