I love the plane but it has a lot of ground (air) to make up with me. I havent found anywhere where I can buy a 17*7 prop. I know you say don't go higher than a *6 for 3D but perhaps the 1.20 will be able to do a fair bit on an 18*8 or 16*8?

I'm not really at 3D level anyway would be happy to:
*Fly Invert (smoothly lol)
*Knife Edge (smoothly lol)
*Hover (at all)
*Stall turn (easy on any prop)
*loop, bunt, roll etc (no probs)
*snap (the futaba makes it a breeze)
*rolling circle (need to get my head around it)
*rolling loop (as above).

Now with a plane the size of the Edge and a 1.20fs can I do the above on an *8 pitch? My thoughts after the initial flights are that the 16 is not big enough for the weight of the motor.

Am thinking about picking up a Hype 3D to use as a throw around hack and keeping the Edge for slowfly Sunday. I think I need to re-educate myself on flying smoothly as the Edge seems to prefer being well setup for turns etc. Will be keen to see how removing the taileron function will benefit (less drag etc). Damn weather was aweful this weekend, next weekend is supposed to be better, will report back gang.

I own the 540 Storecreature had at the top of the page. On it's first flight it folded it's wings and messed itself up pretty good.

Anyway, I spoke with the people I brought it off (brought it through a model shop) and they've rebuilt it for me and will test fly it to ensure it's all good. They've braced up the wing and fuselage areas where they believe it needed it.

Look forward to getting it back and seeing how it goes. I've put an OS 91 I had from one of the helicopters in it.

Hi Guys - I am just now building the 120 sized Edge 540 and will send you some pics when its looking like a plane.
Altho the manual doesnt say so, I glassed the wing joint upper and lower. The underside of the wing is just white, so I have put red bands of monocote to help visibility.

Next flying update.....

Hi gang,

Success!!!!

I have another 6 flights on the Edge this time with no minor crash repairs, a successful landing everytime. The fix for me was taking out the taileron mixing. As I suspected, the tailerons mixed in with the airlerons were creating too much drag and were causing it to stall in a turn or at low speeds. This may not be an issue when running a .60 or .90 but with the 1.20 the wingloading is so high that it is just too much.

The plane flies beautifully now and lands nicely with a few blips of the throttle on the way down.

Unluckilly, I snapped off one taileron half while putting the plane away in my house, now I know what everyone is takling about with saying the tail section is weak... I was a bit surprised to find that it is just one thick section of balsa/light wood. I will be doing the rigging wire modification on the tail and would recommend others to do the same. Otherwise she flies great....

Will soon be putting on a 17*7 for a bit more oomph.

cheers,

Geoff

SJN - I am using a laser 150 in it. It won't be a blurr but it should be OK.
Gricer - way to go on your Edge 540. Excellent 3D shot, Adrian!

Just Recd. my Edge 90 package and I have one word to describe the finish of this ARF - Fabulous! - From the packing, quality of hardware, Goldberg's ultrakote covering, all wood construction, fibre glass cowl pre painted and ready , workmanship and the overall finish.
This is truly an ARF. It does just short of flying out of the box. The Canopy is installed with a pre painted pilot figure from the factory. The engine mount, push rods are already installed. The control surfaces are attached. All one needs to do is to install the engine, radio gear, join the 2 wing halves.....and you are ready to go.

I have one ARF to compare this with - the EZ Cap 232 3D that I have. That is a Japanese model and costs almost twice as much. But let me tell you - the Edge kicks the butt of the EZ model in every department. The flying characteristics have to be tested though!

4 Questions....
1. The elevator servos are at different distances from the horns with varying push rod lengths. Will this pose any problems?
2. Cant seem to locate the exit point for the already installed rudder push rod. Has it already been cut out at the left rear of the fuse or do I need to cut it out?
3. The wing joiner ply looks rather weak. Does it have enough strength to hold during aerobatics?
4. Although the pilot is pre painted and installed, It looks to be of a smaller scale that the Plane. Has any one else noticed this? The cockpit looks too empty for single seater aerobatic plane!!

Cheers

Edge 540 vs UCD

Has anyone flown both the U-Can-Do-3D and this Edge? I have pretty much narrowed my pick down to these two planes. Although the edge obviously looks sweeter, I am more interested in good 3D(and all-around) performance.

Regards,
Philip

phill - we have just bought a razzle after intensive research on the ucan/flip/razzle. comparing it to the edge is not apples with apples. the ucan is a great plane but check out all the real 3d stuff. best

lavneet,
I woudl recommend bracing up the wing a bit. I don't know a hell of a lot about construction of planes at this point, but the wing on my Seagull 540 folded in straight level flight.

On the good side, a mate of mine saw my plane today at the guys place who has fixed it, says you can't tell any difference from when I first got it. Looking forwad to getting it back!
