Hi Lanceair,

I just used a spacer and it will do the job, also go to this thread and you will get those photos show you the pull and pull system some friends are using.http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...ht=seagull+540

good luck..

Quick question In the photos they are using a threaded rod thru the rudder. Is this the best way to go? I was thinking about using two control horns. This is the only thing holding me up from getting this plane in the air I'm not sure how I want to do this rudder system. I just know I didn't want to use the warped dowl with flimsy rods nailed to it.

Pull Pull

I think DuBro makes the pull pull rod you are talking about. The one in the photo was taken off an old plane I had laying around.

P.S. This plane is still flying and I'm having a blast as a matter of a fact I flew it today.

Well it's all put together and flight ready. By my calculation with my engine I need 5oz in the front to balance at 3-1/2" back. I used the lead strips and stuck them on the cowl in front is this ok?
Or should I find a more solid mount for the lead?

under the engine mount is a good spot . we also beleave the lower the better. good luck and we hope you braced the tail!!

Should I brace the tail before I even fly it? Is it ok for normal sport flight? I'm not going to be doing anything extreme till I get a good feel for the plane.

prevention is better than cure, obviously you may do as you wish but this is a marvelous plane with only a small weakness so to fix before you fly is really a positive recommendation. best

lanceair - you'll find that the plane just sits there on the ground at idle and the tail will shake like crazy. As soon as you brace it with wires, the tail will no longer shake. It will respond better in the air, too.

I bought the sullivan flying wire kit and braced it up today I also glassed the wings, and balanced it. It needed another 1/2oz in the nose with the wires. So now all I need is a the right weather, and away she goes.

I finally had a chance to take her out this morning :) Now that I have a few flights under my belt I have to say this plane flies nice. I can already see the need for more power thou. I'm running a mds .68 with a 13x6 and it just wasn't enough power for unlimited vertical performance. maybe with a different prop It would do better. This is by far the most responsive plane I've flown yet. I almost had a harder time with take off then with landing, by the time I had wot it was pulling to the left hard. I'm going to have to get used to that. I just can't wait to get some more practice with her.

Glad it went OK for you. I got to get some more air miles on a few other birds before I try my 540. Its ready to go but I'm not.

for what it's worth. go with half throttle and keep her straight and she will lift with ease, full throttle take off's make me nervous

Sounds like a good idea They sure wern't pretty with full throttle I'll have to try keeping the throttle at the lowest possible to get her off the ground.

When I had mine running, I gave it full and it was up in about 3.5 metres.... great fun... a real head turner at the patch.

how good would this sort of thing be as a second plane coming from a high-wing trainer?

Cheers
Dave
I like the look and price of the Seagull Edge 540

if you fly well then ok but if not stay with the trainer for a while longer whilst building the edge, best

Very good info here on the Seagull 540. Looking for a engine for mine. What do guys think about the Enya 80 on this plane and hovering.
