I just test flew mine last week. It has a OS 91fx with a 13x8 prop.
Very good verticle performance and very stable. Excellant first 3d plane. You can't beat the price! :)

1.20 sized Seagull Edge 540?

Anybody think that it's any co-in-ki-dink that the Hanger 9 1.20 sized Edge 540 is going away and Seagull Models is going to start making one? Check out the following link, very similar specs to the Hanger 9 model!

http://www.hiflightrc.com/html/new_p...romotions.html

Bet you money they're the same design! Can't wait for Horizon to bring this model to the states...

Any thoughts on the 'paint' they used on the firewall? That paint sure doesn't look fuel-proof....

I think it is so neat that we are all discussing what we think of this model right now..... taking into consideration that I am in Arizona, Adrian is in Israel, and wolf is in Italy,,,,, truly amazing.

Adrian/wolf123/all:

What do you think about the MVVS .77 for this airplane? It has the power of a .91 - 1.08 but in a .60 sizes engine.

News from Wisconsin

Its been below zero here, (I think even nitro would freeze in this weather) Im taking my time putting my edge together and noticed something, the stab has a nasty twist in it. Since its a sheet balsa piece and already so beautifully covered and hinged I really don't want to replace it. Does anyone have any suggestions. Will heat applied to the right place help on a thick solid piece like this?. Thanks, all you guys on this thread have been very helpful. Randy

hi guys- ducati, those mvvs engines are really very good and extremely powerful and as with most European engines they don't need nitro so they run cheaper. good choice for the edge.

rkrig- sorry to hear about the stab problem, yes this sometimes happens with balsa as it's sensitive to moisture and temperature , i think if you take two flat pieces of strong straight wood of about the same size clamp it really good in several places for a day or two and apply some mild head with a heat gun or hair dryer it should straighten out. you can use metal or aluminum also . good luck.

The MVVS 77 is a real torquer... It's got a longer stroke than other engines it's size, so it spins larger diameter props better. If this planes comes in under 8.5lbs, I'd say it'd be a good fit.

Hi guys,

I've emailed the Seagull factory and asked them if the Edge 540 is suitable for a 1.20 and if so what type they used in design and testing....

Hope an SC1.20 fits, i'm picking it all up on Saturday! :)

Will get back to you when I have a response from Phat......

I talked with tech support at horizon and they said they tried a 120 - but there was a lot of gap between the cowl and the spinner. Other than that, they said it was O.K.

Hi guys, what prop would you recommend for the Edge 540 with a SC 1.20 to prop hang.. the SC manual says a 16*6 or 16*8 is recommended for the engine but this would be for general running.... an 18*4 or 18*5 maybe? I'm not looking for speed or circuits just mostly up/down/loop/twirl/land etc.

What type of flying do you plan on doing with your Edge? If the plane comes out 8+ lbs, you're going to have a tough time hovering this model.

Gricey 01-29-2003 07:38 PM

Seagull Models Edge 540

Hover hopefully. What sort of lb thrust can you expect out of a cheapy chinese 1.20 4s?

f2racer:

I do not plan to hover at this moment. I plan to use the plane for normal aerobatics maneuvers and some basic 3D. Then we will see were we will go from there. And remember always to keep an open mind about new products, new technologies, etc.

Regards,

GL
