Hey guys, I'm building my modeltech magic now and was wondering if I could get a few pointers. I'm planning on running a Magnum 52 4s on it but noticed in the manual it mentioning a setting up the thrust. Something about on model tested OS 40 with 1degree of right angle thrust and maybe some down or up angle thrust. Can't remember for sure. How is everyone else's setup, and maybe someone with the same engine configuration how are you running it. Also how do you setup the different thrust angles correctly. I guess last but least where are you running the CG for sucessfull 3d.

Do a search on the word "Magic" and you should come up with a wealth of info. I have two of 'em. One with an OS 28 and the other with a K&B 6.5, (old style .40). Had to put the battery back in both of 'em to balance.

Thanks, I found alot of useful information with the search but I couldn't find anything on setting the thrust angle. Can anyone help with that?

I set mine up with an LA 40 and no right or down thrust. I was going to use a Saito .56 but 14 oz. is too heavy and I would have had to add tail weight. It balanced perfectly with the .40 and the battery towards the front.

I haven't flown it yet.

WOW!! Even with the .28 I had to put the battery pack between the servo's and the next former back to get it to balance! With the .40 I had to put the battery under the vertical fin! The one with the .28 was originaly owned by a friend who had an OS .46FX in it. He had the battery pack in the area by the throttle servo and about 3 oz. of lead in the very tail end!

I used standard Futaba servos for the elevator and rudder and a micro servo for the throttle. A dave brown nylon mount for the engine and the standard wire tail gear. Mine is the arf with the 2 piece wing.

On the suggestion of another Magic owner. I mounted my battery to the bottom of the wing (it sits just above the rudder pull-pull and does not hit). I also added 1oz inside the rear of the tail. I have an mvvs .40 on mine with a DB round fiberglass mount. Moving all this weight back has really helped. The plane is "goofy fun" if you know what I mean. On the suggestion of someone else I wrapped .22 gauge wire around the weld on the landing gear above the wheels, soldered it and have not had a problem with breakage since. Before that it was breaking all the time (we fly off grass). this plane will take off in about 2 feet and climb straight up accelerating with the mvvs .40. enjoy.
