RE: Hinge Update
Nice work and really looks good. I like your covering scheme. Certainly won't have many copies around. I am still trying to determine which Hinge option to use. The Robart hinge points are too long and concerned about having enough wood to bite into even if using Gorilla glue. I then looked at Dubros pinned hinges and then picked up the small G.P hinge points. I could get maybe 5 or six of the G.P. hinge points in and the length is good so it won't go through the wood. Conversely not sure of the strength of these hinges for a gasser. Most likely will use the Nylon pinned hinges from Dubros and mount three of these next to the old CA hinges. I am going to test all of these when I get the time. Any thoughts on the G.P. small hinge points?

I have well over 100 flights on mine, 2/3 of those were with a 3W-60, the rest being with a 3W-75.
So far my rudder hinges are ok along with all of the other ones. They were all the CA hinges Don www.rnlinc.com |
RE: Hinge Update
The pinned hinges seem more likely to get good puchase on the wood if properly pinned. I almost used the riveted hinge points on mine but thought it would weaken the frame and have less surface to glue to.
Don, what prop and spinner are you running? Looks sharp! What are you guys using to attach the flying wires? |
RE: Hinge Update
Don, who made your prop/spinner combo. I will be using a Moki 2.10 on my bird so it wont swing whats hanging on the front of yours but , I would like a three bladed prop.

RE: Hinge Update
The spinner is a tru-turn (I am ordering at cf spinner) the prop is a mejlick (I know the spelling is not even close) my spare prop is a biela.

RE: Hinge Update
What size spinner and prop?
|
RE: Hinge Update
Not sure on the spinner 3.5 inch? The prop (I have 2) are a 22-10 3-Blade and 22-12 3-Blade
Both work fine with the power that I have. The 22-10 will hover slightly better only because it is more responsive on the bottom end. Don |
RE: Hinge Update
Update: After a couple of my clips broke in early July, I ordered some replacements from Great Planes. They came in this week.
After about 60 flights in a season of use, my firewall had come loose, and one of my elevator CA hinges tore. The firewall was easy to fix; I'm still trying to figure how to best fix the hinge. The good: I LOVE the way the airplane looks and flys, and the above issues would not change my mind about buying another, or the Christen Eagle. By the way, Hobby Services were ADAMANT that the clips I would recieve would be the same as I already had, but they're not. They are stainless, and a heavier guage. Ronm |
