First flight tested OK. It is really sensitive on the elevator. Once it was trimed out it flies really nice. It is a neat airplane flying by. I just wished they would have made a better instruction manual on assembling the airplane. I am using a YS63 which seems to be a good match for the airplane. :cool:

No, I did not have to add any nose weight at all......it balanced perfect.

Hey Bill. I have the same combo as you {63} and mine is really elevator sensitive even tho the cg is ok.Tried some expo on mine,about 30%. Tim.

Just ordered a Gee Bee last week. Keep me posted on what you do to resolve the elevator sensativity. I have a Saito 56 or a O.S. 72 surpass that I could put in it. Any recomendations?

My choice would be the OS , but I would not go any bigger than that myself. I think the airplane will fly ok on the recomended power if your careful with it,but I wanted the extra insurance of a little more power under the cowl..... this plane is not your everyday long lohn,sweet stick,or sig kadet. This plane flyes better than I thought it would, but I have only flown mine once so far, and it will keep you on the edge at first, but what do you expect!! its a Gee Bee!!
My wife laughed at me for buying it, she thought is was one the ugliest airplanes she has ever seen, but after seeing it in the air flying she now likes it better than any plane I have ,I think!!

I feel that its going to be somewhat touchy on elevator because it the nature of the beast..........

Glad to hear it is working out for you Bill. I got another flight on mine with the OS .52, while much better, the engine ran consistant, I'm not getting the RPM out of it. OS says it should run about 12k and I'm about 1500 short of that.Maybe they are dreaming I don't know.

I might be looking for a YS to put in it and might go on. The plane is flying on the .52 but can only go about 50 feet at a 45 degree angle before dropping out. Maybe if I quit flying it on 15-25mph windy days I'll see a little more out of it. :D

Losing that 52 Surpass in favor of a YS 63 will be a revelation. I have a 63 and a 91FZ. There is simply no comparison. These are the best engines I've EVER fooled with; period.

The YS 63 is just a tad larger than an OS 46 two-banger. It won't care which way you mount it or where you put the fuel tank. And the 63 is as powerful (perhaps a bit more so) as an OS 70 Surpass. I've got an "old" (pre-enviro Nazi carburetor) 70 Surpass that I still run- going to put it in a Top Flite Contender- because it is just a solid, dependable engine. But from now on, all new engine purchases (plank AND heli) will be YS.

Haven't seen you on The Dark Side lately; now I know where you've been hiding...<G>

I'm running an APC 11x8 on it right now. Seems to be the best one at this time. I might try an 11x6 or 11x7 to see what happens.

Yeah, I've been flying planes more than heli's lately. I guess I'm getting back to my grass roots. Been flying the fix wingers since '86 and still love 'em.

I've been thinking hard about the little YS. I also have a .91 FZ and a 1.20. The .91 just has about 24 oz through it on the bench, it will be going in my TF P-47 once it is finished. The 1.20 is in an Ultimate and that it a great flying machine.

Now if I could just talk my wife into that DA100 to get my 1/3 scale Cap going... <sigh>

Me too. Started them in '87, helis in '92.

I had a brief foray into the bigger models (a 1/4 scale CAP 232/Saito 150), but it's for sale. I'm staying with the 40/60-size. The big ones are just too much hassle to store/transport. I plan on getting another SUV when I retire, but for now it is pretty tight under the bed cover of my S-10 pick-up! Besides, a good 55"-65" sport plank with a dependable four-stroke is more fun than the law should allow...<G>

I got a MA scale Jet Ranger fuselage kit for Xmas. That puppy is going to consume most of my modeling time this year, I think. But I'm already planning a scale plank; just not sure which one yet.
