Midwest Aerobat
 

The big brown truck showed up last night with my new Aerobat. After reading the reviews on this plane I had to have one. The fit and finish is great. It's a shame they don't make this plane anymore. Duel aileron servos, choice of tricycle or taildragger, didn't need to break out the iron, 3" wheels, prebent pushrods, vertical stab factory installed, ect. ect. I will be converting it to bolt on wing. MinnFlyer was right, I couldn't be happier with the product.

I liked the Aerobat so well, I bought 2. One's a trike and the other a tail dragger. The free-wheeling tailwheel takes alot of rudder to stear on grass but off a paved or packed runway, a snap.

I have an SK .50 on the taildragger with an APC 10x6 prop...WOW!

I had a brush with high grass on a too low high-speed pass with the trike...Here's my rebuild in progress:

Hmmm, those photos are not of the midwest aerobat that Falcon Trading sold. I had the Aerobat and it was a good step up from a trainer with semisymetrical airfoil, but was a bit heavy and landed fairly hot. Also, with the rudder hinge line swept back it wanted to pitch upward with rudder input.

Hiya Ernie...

I never noticed any issues with rudder input and both my AEROBATs landed nice and slow with dual elevator servos acting as FLAPERONS. Weight is due to the extrensive use of ply in the fuselage construction and hardwoods in the wing.

Even without flaps, landing speeds are tame. What props you runnin'?

Oh, the photos ARE a Falcon Trading Midwest AEROBAT...As I notated, I augered in and have REBUILT the SECOND AEROBAT abit "different" so as to not have TWO identical airframes.

Call if ARF-Bashing as it were, lol....

I have a couple before I changed the trike over...The original covering on the trike is the one that I have ARF-bashed. By the way, I flew her for the 1st time this morning with an old Como/SuperTigre 40 spinning a TopFlite 10x6 Super Maple prop...a long rolloff but she flew "better" than the original(maybe that's my ego talkin', lol).

I had a Magnum 52 on my Aerobat in the beginning. Boy did it HAUL! Later put on OS 46SF ringed engine and that was much more realistic!

It depends on how much you are into aerobatics or pattern style of flying before you notice things like rudder/pitch coupling. Next time you try knive edge with a plane that has the rudder line slanted backwards (looks cool though) notice how it wants to pitch towards the canopy and will take a LOT of down elevator to keep it from snapping out.
