New Ugly Stick Biplane

Hey Guys, I was looking thru Ebay and saw some Ugly Stick biplanes, I haven't seen one before anywhere but there. Does anyone have more information about them?

Sure do!!.....Check www.cedarhobbies.com and you will see what you need and at a great price. Thats the good news. The "other" news is that I emailed them on a plane and to date they haven't replied. Let us know how it turns out as it looks like a pretty cool plane. I believe they call it a "chugly Stick". I am looking at their version of the single wing stik and also enquired about one they do not have on their website but had a pretty good write up on here, called a "Liftmeister", which looks like a 100" version of a Kadet Sr.

Check the classifieds on RCU, They are $115.00 may be more if you go to their website. I've delt with them before, they do come through, a stand up outfit. I have their twin stick and flies well . Instructions aren't the greatest and some places are a little short on glue, but for the price and something different spend a little time checking it out before flying and you have a neat plane.....
there is another thread on this plane "cedar hobbies stick bipe"

Thanks Guys! I have a single wing stick that flies great so figured I'd try a biplane but I think I'm sticking a 4 stroke on her. A nice .61 or .70 should do very well. I might have to rebalance her but that's no trouble.

I had a 40 something Evolution that was a screamer in my trainer and I switched it out with a .61 4 stroke. That Evolution wouldn't stay running most flights so I was dead sticking quite a few landings. The 4 stroke doesn't seem as powerful but it's a lighter engine then the 40 was and a lot more realiable. Can't wait to hear what you find out when you fly it.

got mine on the big brown truck yesterday. I have to wait a while to see what it doesa as it is a Christmas present for my 13 year old grandson. He is flying a super sportster 40 now so this should be a treat for him.

Anybody flown yet? I'm assembling mine now, and will reinforce the firewall/landing gear areas. Any "gotcha's" that I need to look out for? I'm assuming that because the airplane is "short coupled" that it's going to be pitch sensitive. Does anybody have any advice on control throws? Any advice would be appreciated.

Has anyone got one in the air yet?

I've built and flown the old Midwest kit...and still have a kit of the model to build. The Cedar Hobbies looks to be a carbon copy of the Midwest kit. Let me tell you folks that the Sick Bi-plane was a great little flyer for me. She is a bit close coupled, and you need to a little careful on take off...but once mastered and you know the model...a sweet model. I loved my kit...and if this kit turns out to be as nice as their stick twin...I'll buy one and sell my old Midwest kit.

So someone get it airborn and fill us all in.

Soft landings always,
Bobby of Maui

I found the place to mount the aileron servos in the wings. I used my heat gun and got the area guttenhot and pressed the covering down tight before cutting away the section. it seemed loose so would suggest you do the same with an iron or gun. the doors were a perfect fit. now to figure where to bring the wires out in the center. btw I soaked the servo mounting blocks with thin ca. they are way too soft to hold the screws. I found that the control surfaces are not slotted for the ca hinges. the rudder was...but not even near the slots in the vert stab. I ordered a slotting machine from tower last night. also ordered 3 1/2" flat foam wheels and a 1 1/2 tail wheel for the grass runway. would have ordered a 1 3/4 but none had a small enough axle hole. If you have the skill build a new mounting plate for the main gear and move it forward to the firewall and epoxy in place. This is not a scale plane and it will handle a 100 times better on the ground and in landing.

I'm about to (tonight after work) attach the elevator and rudder. Then, on to the wings.

I was about to order one when I noticed the interplane struts appeared to be made of aluminum. Is this true? It looked heavy. But it might not be, that's why I'm asking. TIA

RE: New Ugly Stick Biplane

They're not aluminum. I'm not sure what they're made out of. Could be balsa or some pressed type material. They're very light.

aluminum painted plywood. laser cut then painted. I am going to repaint mine black.

Just got off the phone with Cedar Hobbies. lots of new stuff in the future. I told him the little problems we were having and He is going to address them in the batch he has ordered. motor mount spacing, glued parts falling out etc. the servo hardware is 4-40 and major overkill for this model. I am going to report this to Cedar and see if they can down size to 2-56. lots easier to bend and cut.

Is anyone putting a 4 stroke on this bipe? I have an old Saito 40 and thought this plane would be a good match. Any opinions?

it would be perfect and sound really neat too.

went to the hobby shop and got engine mounting screws and enough 2-56 wire and fittings to do the rudder, elevator, and throttle. cost me less than $8.00 at hobby shop prices. I have to take a break from the Bipe today to finish the grandsons Extra 300. It is a 40-60 size and I am going to use the os 46 from the crashed plane. Picked it up for $150.00 all put together with brand new JR servos ready for the engine, rx, and battery. I'll be back on the bipe friday.
