Is this the Kankge kit? I've seen Yuri fly one at our field, but I'm still not sure on this one myself. I admit it looks good and so far I'm impressed with Kange's quality.

Laser 2000

Just finished mine and flew it last weekend. With the brison 3.2 / 22-8 zinger pro it gives new meaning to the phrase unlimited vertical. I have never seen anything go verticle like this that didn't have an afterburner. All up weight 15lbs 6oz. I didn't like the wheels or the tail wheel assembly, but everything else in the kit is good. Has real nice machined alum controll horns and adjustable alum pushrods. The stars come on a decal sheet and I think it looks better without them. I had to reinforce the fiberglass wheel pants, the mount was too small for use on grass. It tracks well and is very easy to fly. One of my friends just tried to buy one and Kangke's inventory is sold out but I was told Chief aircraft still has some.

Thanx for the info...seems like the plane to get..had several other e-mails in regards to this a/c....now if Uncle Sam would be nice to me and give me a nice return on my income tax................

It's coming along

I'm getting closer and more excited!

It is very good quality except the hardware, it's too light.
I spoke with one of the guy's at Kangke and he suggested better hardware if you are going to do extreme 3D.

The plane is about 4 days from complete at my current speed.
Im on spring break this week so I should be able to spend more time with it.

Guesstimated weight is about 16.5lbs, still at the bottom of the advertised weight of 16-18lb.

Equipment Used:

Futaba 9Z WC2 Tx.
Futaba 149DP 1024PCM Rec.
ZDZ 60 turning 22-10/24-8. This thing is gonna be a rocket! :D
Hitec 645MG on Ailerons
Hitec 945MG on Rudder & Elevators
Futaba 9202 on Throttle
Dubro Hi-Strengh Servo Arms
JR 1800 6v on Rec. & Servos
Futaba 1500 on ignition.
3 1/2" Tru-Turn Ultimate Spinner

Mods made so far :

1. New landing gear from TNT Landing Gear- 1/2" taller, 1 1/2" wider wheel base, 3/16 thick.
(He now has the original and modified demensions for this plane. $30.00 - Great People to deal with!)

2. Replaced almost all metric bolts/screws with US.

3. Used Rocket City #8 control horns on everythiing.

4. Completly rebuilt the flying wire setup with 2-56 & Sullivan Golden Clevices W/locks.

5. Replaced tail wheel assembly with Klett assy.

6. Used Keltt large nylon hinges on everything.(this was a bitc# as a few of them go into hardwood)

7. Moved fuel tank to CG, under wing tube mount.

8. Replaced fuel tank with Dubro 20oz gas.

9. Replaced plastic wheels with Dubro 3 1/2"

Hope to get it in the air this weekend, weather permitting.

Here's a little tip, the canopy is held on by the tape. Remove it and glue it then put striping tape back on. Mine fell off after about 50 flights and I never noticed it was loose, only took 2 min to fix and so far thats the only problem I've had.

Still Waiting

The weather has not permitted me to fly it yet.

It has been 15-30 mph for the last two weekends,
of course the weather has been perfect on the days I can't go to the field.

Any one else have a flight report? I would like to know what to expect when I fly it.

All up weight came out to 17-1/4 lb. I think this will still be acceptable.

Thanks,
Wimpy

First Flight !!!!!!!!!

First flight report: WAAAA-HOOOOO :D

Lifted off, two clicks of up trim and hands off.

This plane flies stable as a rock, point the nose where you want it and it will stay there.

Stalls are straight ahead with NO bad habits and no snap.

The ZDZ-60 is a perfect match for this plane, with only 10 minutes on the engine it was obvious that this setup will be totally unlimited.

Landing was like flying a trainer, I was worried about tip stall with this wing design, narrow tips and all, but it was for not.

On the second flight, I came in for landing and kept it 6" off the ground untill it just ran out of speed and it settled down on all three wheels, no tip stall at all.

Notes:
Need to re-adjust throws on low rate, as the book settings are a little conservative for me, esp. on Aileron.

There is some Rudder to Aileron coupling that will need to be mixed out, but I'm guessing only about 3-4%, it will slow roll at full rudder deflection.

Kangke/SuperKraft did an excelent job with this plane.
It's built extremely well, (except the hardware) and flies even better.

My Rating:   I'd give it more but I only have two hands.

Wimpy.I also flew my "New" Laser 2000 Friday...flies like a dream..very gentle and after my FPE 2.4 gets broke in,then will try some 3-D stuff......Very satisfied with it's flight performance...My only big problem in building this kit was the cowl..wouldn't fit..did make adjustments and everything is ok...total all up weight is 16 Ibs...will fly again today....am sure I'll have some fun with this plane this summer..............could say more, but Wimpy has said it all for me....

Cowl Problems

I agree with you Jimmy, I flew yesterday and one of the "L" brackets on the cowling broke.

I replaced the aluminum. "L" brackets with some 1/32" steel braces, also used 4-40 bolts and blind nuts instead of screws, that should hold it.

I did some mods on my cowl also, I repaired the top brace, and cut it so the clearance was better.
Mine was broken loose when I got it, and I didn't want to wait 2 weeks to get another.

I did call Kangke and the guy said no problem, sent it in and we will send you another, also called them a couple of times for clarifications on some other stuff during building and they were always very helpful, very nice guys at Kangke.

5 flights on it now and still

I got my Laser 2000 today and was supprised to see CA hinges. Did you guys use the supplied hinges or did you opt to go with Robart pinned hinges or something else???

Wimpy 04-20-2002 12:16 PM

Hinges

Scroll up and look at my "Mods so far" section.
I used Klett nylon hinges, I don't trust CA on anything this big.

I used the hinges ( CA) that were supplied in the kit...so far so good, but my honest opinion, if I were to build another one,I would use Robart hinge points (Large)..hope this makes up your mind....BTW, I didn't use the 'L" shaped metal mounting plates on the cowl, to mount the cowl..I made some maple wooden ones, one on each side, and one on top..used Dubro brass inserts, and nylon 8-32 screws .............The reason why I did this was because I had to remove most of the 1/8" ply support from top and bottom of the cowl, in order to make it fit..this was the biggest problem I had in putting this plane together.Good luck with yours

Hi,

A friend of mine owes me some money and he wants to trade the debt for this plane. I'm Interested on 3D fly style and I would appreciate your opinions.

As far as I know the plane is a great flyer....I assume you could try 3D maneuvers, and the plane would response to them.......am using a 2.4 FPE in it and it performs very well..all up weight is 16 Ibs.......I'd traded for the money.........BTW, seal the gap between the ailreons and wing....was getting some ailreon flutter, but after sealing the gap,no more flutter.........one more thing..check with TNT landing gear and get a 3/16" thick landing gear from them..the one supplied with the kit is too weak..bents very easy..mine cost $30.00..........Good Luck............
