World Models P-51 .46 - Replacement tires
The stock foam wheels on this arf have a narrower rim than a standard dubro wheel. I went to try to replace these stock foam tires for dubro rubber ones, and I can't fit a wheel collar on as the axel as it is not long enough.
Does someone make a 2 1/4 rubber wheel with a narrower rim? Thanks G |

One option is to cut off the existing axle and use a bolt on axle such as http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD828&P=0
If they have a separate axle that can be unbolted and replaced with a longer axle such as http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD824&P=0 . The only problem you may have with doing that is if the plane has retracts - the wheel wells will need to be modified (bottoms cut out ) to accept the greater depth of the wheel/axle. |

Try 2 inch Kavan. I use them on all my planes. I also have a couple of those WM P-51's

Hay G,
There is a simple fix that I use and it works. Go to your collection of brass tubing, and find brass tube that will just fit on the shaft of the wheel axle snugged. Try to get the tightest fit you can...a drop of CA will hold it in place if you clean all the surfaces. Then just cut the brass tubing to length, and drill out the wheel to fit nice, with as little side play as you can get away with. Then place a new wheel collar on the brass tubing...or drill out the old wheel collar. Most whell collars are brass and and use the same drill size you used on your wheel. The wheels W.M. uses are cheap foam and will ware funny and in time cause you major problems. So is their fuel tanks. Soft landings, Bobby of Maui |

I have the WM mustang 46 and i have dubro rubber wheels fitted, all i did was shave a little bit off of the wheel hub where it sticks out a little bit to stop it sliding round the bend in the gear and then bought some slimmer wheel collets for 25 pence from my LHS because the ones that come with the plane are very wide and its a perfect fit that has held up so far for almost 2 years. its very simple.
