RE: Senior telemaster engine?

ORIGINAL: Ed Cregger

Sometimes all that is needed for a shaking tail assembly is to put struts (made of pushrod wire) between the vertical and horizontal stabilizers. This assumes that the horizontal and vertical stabilizers are securely mounted to the fuselage. I tend to use extra triangle stock to hold things together in the rear. It is light, easy to apply and it adds considerable strength to the area.

Ed is correct just add wire struts if the flexing bothers you................I have had 2 STM and the tails flex but I would not call them weak.................my first TM flex for over 10 years without a problem.......it was taken out in a mid-air. The second Sr TM, I added wire struts and the flexing stopped. I had a TT91 4c engine on mine and it was a blast to fly.......the larger 4C engine allowed for some vary slow idle passes swinging the large wood.....2 clicks above idle as I remember

Well after all that I was at the LHS yesterday and saw an alpha 60 ARF......well heard they make nice convertables to tail gear later in life so bought one up along with a spektrum dx-6i radio wifey wasnt too thrilled but hey its tax time lol.

Crash,

You will like the Alpha. Very stable flier and better than several other trainer types.[sm=thumbup.gif]

Does anyone have any idea how much load the Senior Telemaster can carry? With a 26cc 17x4w prop, gross takeoff weight around 22.5 lbs?

Powered by a 10cc glow engine, the Senior Telemaster was commonly thought capable of reliably lifting a 10 lb. payload.

FWIW, I flew my Sr. Telemaster with an original Webra 4-stroke, rotary valve 60. It put out the power of maybe a 30 2-stroke. It was plenty to pull the plane around realistically. It wouldn't hover, of course, but it was a good trainer.:D

We flew it yesterday at 20.5 lbs auw. It was a bit sluggish but still had ample power to takeoff and climb out. Next step 22 lbs..:D

Ok Guys,
I have built the Sr. Telemaster from a Kit, but I'm now going to build a yellow colored ARF. I managed to get one from a gentleman leaving the hobby at a really nice price, and now plan to put it together. All my past Sr. Telemasters were powered with K&B .61's and flew just great with this engine. More then enough power at sea level, and in my last one, I had a bomb bay built into the fuse, and it would lift up to 10# with out to much effort.

If anyone has any comments on the Hobby Lobby Sr. Telemaster ARF, I would love to hear from you.

Bobby of Maui

RE: Senior telemaster engine?

It is a great airplane, by far my favorite. I had a Zenoah 20 cc gas in my original until I had a switch failure inflight. Oh well. I have a SPE 26 cc in the new one. I love the gas engines and it is a great fit for the ST. The 20cc was more than enough power for everything but verticle flight.

We flew a ST for 7 hours 2 years ago in an endurance contest. We landed with fuel 2 minutes after the neares competitor. I have a Giant kit loaded with LED for night flying. 55 cc DLE. Massive "bomb" bay.

Enjoy...

I have the Senior Telemaster ARF and I put an RCGF 15cc in it but I have not flown it yet. (Stuck in Afghanistan for 16 more days..) I modified the wing to use two wing bolts so no rubber bands for me. I would suggest, if you go the gasser route, to place the rudder and elevator servos in the tail, because mine wound up nose heavy and I will have to move the batteries pretty far back to compensate. I also modified the elevator so I could use one servo (joined the halves with a wooden dowel). Other than re-gluing anywhere I could reach, I left it pretty much stock after that. :D

I have an ARF and I had to add 11oz to the nose with an EVO.46 in it to get it to balance. It was used but there wasn't anything done to the original airframe. Weird how they can go from one extreme to the other on the CG. I ave a few RCGF gassers, all 20cc and I love them. Been looking at the 15cc but my only concern is the vibration. Seems the smaller they make them the more they vibrate.

R/C Addiction, that 15 looks good in their, let us know how it does and be safe until your return state side.

RE: Senior telemaster engine?

Hey Guys,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have finally flown my Senior Telemaster with the RCGF 15cc gas engine and it is a great combo! I am running a Master Airscrew 14X7 wide blade prop and tached it at 9200 RPM...great engine. Plenty of power of the Telemaster...it does loops and split-s maneuvers without a dive, idles forever and uses next to nothing for gas. I may have about a half gallon of gas through it and it keeps getting better! The Telemaster will fly, although slow, at quarter throttle. I am going to use the plane to teach my kids how to fly. I almost forgot...it started on the seventh flip on the first run. I will try to get a thrust measurement the next time out to the field. ;)
