Showtime servos
 

I'm about 99% shure I'm going to get the Hangar 9 Showtime in the next couple weeks. How essential are digital and/or coreless servos? This will be my 4th plane but the first true performance airplane. I will be flying mainly pattern type stuff but maybe a little 3D in the future. I'd like to just get a JR sport high-torque, metal gear servo pack. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I use JR exclusively and can recomend any of the 4000 series of servos. Most of them are over $50 each. You might look at the 821 digital BB servo. at about 72 oz/in. I have seen them for $30. I don't have any personal experience with that particular servo but I do have a bunch of the 811.

With digital servos you need a low impedance RX battery of 1400 to 2000 MAH NIMH and probably a field charger.

I have hitec digitals all the way around in my showtime, powered by a NOBS 5 cell 4/5A 1900 mah pack. Got plenty of juice for the servos. ON this type of plane the crisp precision from digital servos will really shine. On top of it more holding power. Ill never go back to analog again. And now you can get the hitec 5645 servo for almost 50 bucks with almost 160 oz of torque. You just cant beat that.

on my ST, I used High Torque, MG analogs on everything but rudder. On rudder, I used one JR8611A digital. I intend to get digitals all around for this plane when I win the lottery. I also recommend running regulated lithiums at 6V whenever you use digital servos. I like the higher capacity. Digitals do use a bit more power, but not THAT much more.
