CMP ARTF KITS
HI All,
has anyone bought, built, flown any of the cmp aerobatic models. I am interested in the extra 300s both90 and the 140 versions. Also the Edge that they make in the 72'' wingspan. What are your findings with regards to quality, building and flying characteristics of these aircraft? Many thanks Keith |
RE: CMP ARTF KITS
I don't have any of the ones that you mention but I do have a CMP Swallow in my hangar.
It's a great flying plane (especially when you consider its price range) but I strongly suggest that you dry fit and measure everything before even thinking about glue. Mine had an issue with the wing hold down bolt locations (Luckily I was pre-warned about this by RCU members when I asked a similar question to yours). I also strengthened the landing gear block location and changed the landing gear, clevises, control horns etc (Again after some advice from RCU members). |
RE: CMP ARTF KITS
Make sure u get help on the CG. It is almost always wrong from cmp!!!

RE: CMP ARTF KITS
What are you talking about, specifically. The CMP kits I have bought do not support your statement.

RE: CMP ARTF KITS
It's probably a bit late as there is a gap of about 3 years?
However, as far as the CG issue is concerned my (albeit limited) experience concurs with what Mamba said. I have a 78" CMP Edge 540 with an MT57 in it. With the CG at the most forward recommended position the plane was a complete dog! After reading a few posts on this model I added some weight to the front and it was completely transformed. Terry |
RE: CMP ARTF KITS
I have to agree with Redback and Mamba. Except for my CMP Cub which will fly in almost any CG position, my other two I had to move the CG forward at least one inch. On my Cessna 182-140, one and a half. RCU saved both of those planes from iminent disaster. On the other hand, being a real pilot who flys aerobatics regularly, Aft legal CG's Make for better maneuverability and might be somewhat favorable to a limit for an experienced pilot.
