Hanger 9 ARF constuction QUALITY???
 

Is Hanger 9 a good manufacturer of ARF's. How well are they built? Do they use any hot glue? What are your opinions and what do you base them on? I am very interested to hear from you. I just got the FuntanaX 100 and it looks good but I don't know how well it's built. Help me out.

I have had good luck with hanger 9.. but with the x100 like a lot of arfs i would double check the glue on the firewall... I have the Funtana 90 , funtana x100, p-40, and the tribute 36... only problem i had was the firewall weakness on the x100..

Nitro wing already told me to pin the firewall on all four sides with two 1/8'x 1/2" long hardwood dowels. Then epoxy the firewall, box and front of fuse.

I have purchased 33% H9 products foe the past 3 years.
Except for the wing issue on the Sukhoi, there quality is excellent.

I currently own several Hanger 9 planes. They are the 40 size Ultra Stick, Twist, 27% Extra 260 and I just finished a Tribute. Like them all except for the firewall on the Extra 260 as mentioned above. They are as good as any ARF in their price range.

I have two Hanger 9 models and have been impressed with the quality....they use finland birch plywood instead of light italian poplar and laser cut all of it to exact specs. The extreme amount of lightening holes can be done because the high quality of the plywood they use. I only wish they offered some kits with this kind of quality they would be fun to build.

I have the Corsair, AT6, Twist & P51 PTS. Put glue everywhere you can get to.

When there are joints that should be glued that aren't. Glue equals more strength.

no matter what arf model you choose , you should allways have a real close look at visible areas and add more EPOXY glues plus Gussets ect. i have seen a Hagner 9 model actually loose its engine thanks to NOT ENOUGH Glue to the main engine bulkhead to fuse fixing points. when you do this you should also apply 2 good coats of thinned epoxy around all oil wet areas, before they get wet.

I have 4 mustangs, 2 twist, 1 f22 ,and a aspire all great and well used over the years
the funtana 100 make sure to ck the aileron re glue if needed

H9 is in the top 5 in my book. I would rate them a close #5 behind Skyshark, Aerotech, World Models, and most of Great Planes, based on the models I have assembled over the years. The last H9 for me was the 33% Sukhoi.

I have the 100X with an OS120 2cy on it and it's one of my favorite planes. As with all ARF's though, always beef up the firewall, the landing gear block and all other suspect areas with tri- stock material. You will love the way it flies, but you might as well order a repacement landing gear from Graphtech now to save down time in the future...............[8D]

hi,

i have just put together the H9 B-25 and will be starting the hellcat very soon. the B-25 is well made and from what i can see does not need much re-enforcing at all and same goes for the hellcat. and from what i have heard they both are great flying models.


but as with ALMOST ALL ARF's check them over well, they are made by several different people and not everyone does the same quality work. if they did we wouldnt need a warranty :D

My Alpha 60 separated at the firewall 5 minutes into it's maiden.

Hanger 9 replaced the plane. I pinned the firewall on the replacement.

the pts mustang 3 blade prop broke in flight 150 ' up could have got ugly fast shaking bad plane comming apart had power down then it happens left wing drops now inverted
darn full power rolled up right cut power just makes it back to the runway able to land

fire wall came loose all as i did was ca glue and add a new prop
I must have cracked the 3 blade prop on an earlier landing a solid plane

I have many H9 planes. One is a PNP Tribute36. The mtr was crazy loose! I rec running a strip of 1/16 ply along the bottom of the fuse or it will snap on a small rough landing. Very weak! My Tango ARF bit the dirt after 4 flights due to factory over gluing the elvator hinges making them brittle. Sent back for replace. Will let you know if they stand behind it. Wish I had it on vid. I love my F22s! With a little beefing they are very tough and pretty in the air. My value series super stick was well made too.

Personally, I rate H9 a little ahead of TF/GP and World Models. my H9 Hellcat and Pawnee 40 were MUCH better than the two World models aircraft that I have assembled. My only TF arf is a Beech Staggerwing and I think the paint and some of the details could have been done a little bit better. The glass work was a little heavy and not the best I have seen.. I have not built any Skyshark or Aerotech models, so I can;t comment on them.

Hanger 9 Fly First Class. Sundsowner, Frenzy, Eratix, ETC, all work great and were build friendly. The Sundowner one of the very first out a yr or so ago. Came with a faulty part. Horizon is the company I got it from but they won't stand behind it. But the plane itself had nothing to do with the part that broke It was a part they recommended using to keep muffler in cowl. Now comes with statement not to use stock muffler. That is why I think they should have replaced mine. It did not come with such info and others had been having this problem. Nothing to do with Hanger 9 at all though. I just throw that in when I can hoping the will get tired of seeing it and actually replace my plane. lol. Has not worked very good so far.

I own and have owned quite a few H9 ARFs (Ultra Stick 40/60, FuntanaX 100, Twist 40, Hellcat) and they are easy to build and of good quality. However, my Great Planes ARFs (Super Skybolt 60, U-CAN-DO 60, RV-4 1/4 scale) are built better. They just seem to make a more solid model. They all fly great but Great Planes, in my opinion, makes a better ARF.

I've got a H9 Spitfire,Hellcat,P40,Corsair all 60 size and a 150 size P51 and P47,Pulse 40 and Pulse 60,Tango Sundowner 50, SU-26 Sukhoi and my trusty old PTS P51 all great models simply construction,well finished and like all before have said,just glued up the firewalls on ALL of them before building and never had any issues.
We can't buy direct from H/Hobbies as we're in Australia,so I purchase everything through Wholesale Trains in NY,they're excellent and if I ever have issues with a model ie missing parts or damage they immediately have air freight the replacement parts,can't ask for better than that
