What size engine
 

I have a 120 Edge that I am looking for an engine for. I like Saito 4 strokes, but at this size, I want something much more fuel efficient. I am considering a 30-40cc gasser, or a 1.20-1.60 2 stroke. Based on initial cost and fuel costs, what fuel and size should I go with? My first thought was a GMS 120 due to having good luck with GMS, and their low cost. I know it will not do 3d, which is fine. I considered an OS 160, but at that price, I could pay a little more for a 30-40cc gasser. I just want a good overall performing engine for basic flight. 3D power is not necessary.

After looking around RCU some more, I found that there are not a lot of planes for 30-40cc, but a ton for a 50cc. Would it makes sense to stuff a 50 into this Edge so that when I retire it, I have more options for a 50cc?

dont recomend a 50 cc in any plane under 15-16 lbs 1300 cube -1500 cubic in wing area whoes Kit are you ussing?

It is a Yellow Aircraft with a wingspan of about 74". Unfortunately it appears that Yellow no longer carries this model.

I was thinking of an OS 160 but wanted the fuel effieciency of a gasser. But I already have a 40cc on the way for an 80" OMP profile and although a 40 is a good choice for that plane, I do not want 2 of the same engine. I liked the idea of the 50 because of the large number of planes that will take a 50.

Maybe I should sell this Edge. It only flew once, along with the Saito 1.80 I have in it now.

I fly a lot of wildhare r/c's planes and have had good luck with them. Great planes makes a aeromaster bipe with a huge wing area on it there are a lot of 50cc planes out there as you said putting a 26 size gas on a 120 size plane has been done with good results a 50 cc on a small air frame to me sounds like a real disaster waitin to happen. Most of the planes on these videos have a 50cc the cap is a 58 all are rated for the engine size and the power is obvious. http://www.rivervalleyflyers.com/Vid/index.html

What is the wingspan on your Wildhare Edge?

What is the typical wingspan range that will do 3D with a 50cc? From what I have seen, it is usually in the 80s, is that correct?

the edge is 84: the cap is 85" but the cap has a dual tapper so its a tad less wing aera. the EF yak is 84 and its ultra light like 15lbs watch wing aera and weight a 120 engine is under 2 lbs or at 2 lbs a 50 is about 4lbs concider the battery and ignition as well as the motor a lb is a lot to an airplane.

How about staying in the 1.20 range and getting a 30-40 gasser? How is the selection of 1.20 size planes?

Brillelli 40cc is within the price range and the weight your looking for. Would be a perfect match for your Yellow Edge540.

I had a 40 on order, but just found out about an hour ago that they are coming out with a 46 in the next couple weeks that is lighter than the 40 adn has more power. That is what I am going to use.
