Anyone out there with experience with the large scale WorldModels P 51 Mustang have an idea of which/what gas engine would best complement this airplane??

WM P-51 GS Engine Choices
 

I am planning to use a YS 1.40 in mine although I do have a Saito 1.80 already on hand that I could use and I'm sure would be great. I like both brands of engines, but the "pumped" part of the YS will make an inverted mounting of the engine a little more pleasant as far as running is concerned. I will not have to worry about fuel tank height in relationship to the carb. This can cause a problem on an un-pumped engine if the two levels are not pretty much the same and sometimes it is not convenient to get them at the same level. One can always use a Cline regulator if needed with an un-regulated engine and that will also work nicely. Have heard reports with the big WM Miss America that the Saito 1.80 is a great powerplant. Most of the gas engines in this thrust range are too heavy for this plane as around 32 oz. is a good target weight. Maybe this will give you some "food for thought".

A guy at my field has the first version giant scale World Mustang Miss America and powers it with a Saito 150. It fly's quite scale like and sounds great. I just bought the latest version in a war-bird scheme and will use a Saito 180 GK with pump.

If you are looking for a gas engine, a G38 works well.

Well folks, I have thought about the Saito and YS which are great engines, particularly when you couple the Saito with a Cline regulator. However, I am looking for gas power and I am considering a ZDZ 40.......ideas on this??

I too, was wondering what engines seem to work in this ship.... was wondering if the Cheetah (42 cc) with C&H ign would fit. I talked to the distributor, and he said that even with the beefed up gear in the later kits, he thought the 42 cc Cheetah would push the gear to the limits.... I noticed that RC Report did an article, and they used a G-38.

Well anyone out there with ZDZ or RCS experience, please help out on this. I think these two motors fit well enough but are they too heavy? Experienced all-knowing ones....please give your two cents worth.

I saw somewhere (I thought it was rc report) a wolf predetor was used, a hand made 30 cc ryobi head engine was used,rear intake plus exhaust, very clean setup, no holes,and very fast,140 mph with a 20x 10 prop.
This little engine was cranking out almost 4 hp,made somewhere in WI.

I was thinking a Moki-2.1 would work very well- Almost sounds like a 4 stroke too :eek:
