WHICH ENG FOR WM SPITFIRE 60
HI, I AM LOOKING FOR AN ENGINE FOR A WM SPITFIRE 60.
I KNOW THAT THIS MODEL BUILDS TAIL HEAVY. SHOULD I FIT A TT 91 FS OR A MAGNUM 120RF OR A 125 SAITO. |
RE: WHICH ENG FOR WM SPITFIRE 60
Friend had an TT120 in a WM Extra 60 and it flew fine ... why not get a nice heavy cheap 4S like the Magnum or ASP?

RE: WHICH ENG FOR WM SPITFIRE 60
I first had an old Webra .61 on it. It was really under powered and needed lots of weight up front. I have since installed a Saito 100 and it is great. I still have a little weight added, so i imagine a 125 should be perfect for this plane.

Magnum 91FS on mine... plenty power IMHO at 7 Lb 4 oz AUW... better than scale for sure. I didn't need any lead to balance... luck of the draw I think as most seem to have needed lead up front using a 91FS.

RE: WHICH ENG FOR WM SPITFIRE 60
Tailskid,
I almost put one in mine... because I HATE lead on my planes I used the 91fs for the extra weight and power. You'll probably need a bit longer than usual take off run to get airborne due to the smallish wing... it's not a short run with mine turning an APC 14x6 at 10 grand... once in the air the saito will pull it fine though. I fly my H9 cubby off water at 10lb 3oz with a saito 72... plenty of power on that huge wing so it's not the weight that will hurt ya it the smaller wing/higher loading. I think it will work BUT I think you'll find it a bit short on the power this Warbird needs. John |

Thanks for the input John.....I have both a .91 and 1.00 looking for a home :) By any chance did you go the fly-in in Lost Wages, or did you go south to the float fly?

RE: WHICH ENG FOR WM SPITFIRE 60
Tailskid,
The Saito 1.00 would be a nice combo... prop it with a 14x8 or so and that puppy will haul the mail! Sadly, I haven't made a float fly YET... I just started float flying this year... all of it at Bowman reservoir just outside of Logandale ... bout 50 miles north of the S@#T hole(Las Vegas) I hope to make some of the float fly's in AZ and NV this year... depends on work and time though. If nothing else I'll head north camping and fly off the reservoirs that litter the northern part of the state... anything to get out of this S%$T hole! can you tell I HATE Vegas[:'(] John |
