Servos--GP pitts
 

Is everyone of the same opinion that metal gears are needed with the GP pitts? I would think a 70 -100 oz servo w/MGs are the same as ones w/PGs I reallize that plastic wears faster but the servo is no stronger or weaker is it??Also I'm planning on just servos in the lower wing w/links to top wing ails

yes the metal gear and the plastic gear have the same torq but the plastic geared servos will be more prone to strip and flutter. I have seen hitec 605's strip out on a sig extra luckily a crash was avoided but they can strip under the right conditions. I have a pitts and went with the 5625's all the way around. It really depends on yor flying style. dut the pitts is a pretty decent size plane and I would at least use metal geared servos if not a servo for each aileron. Just my 2 cents. I have a Hitec 615 metal gear, on the rudder, 605's on the elevators, & a 422 on each aileron. Only rudder is M/G. I have 70+ flights with a FPE 2.4, and absolutly zero problems with palne, motor or radio gear. I dont fly 3D, but I sure dont fly strait & level either. Do definately us 4 servos on ailerons though. Will reduce the chances of flutter, and flutter will destroy the best of servos eventually.

The Manual says 50 oz of Torque is recommended. I was going (Still building) to use Futaba 3004 and run a 6 volt system on the reciever which accroding to Futaba produce:

44.3 ounces-inches (3.2kg-cm) at 4.8V
56.8 ounces-inches (4.1kg-cm) at 6.0V

Am I making a big mistake? Anyone else using the 3004's?

I was at the field one day when a friend brought out a Cermark Pitts with (2) standard Futaba servos in the ailerons. 3002's or something like that. Both servos stripped out in flight. The plane was saved with excellent thumbs on the rudder and elevator, but I finally became convinced that metal gear servos are the way to go on larger or high performance planes. The Cermark Pitts is smaller and lighter that the G/P.
