You'd want to put the servos, batteries, onboard glow driver and probably the kitchen sink in the tail to balance it. Wing loading would go up quite a bit. Let us know how it goes (and have somebody video the first flight). Good luck!

just putting it out there i like overpowerd planes
but thats a little to overweight

That would definitely overpower it :)

I have one of those engines as well and would like to put it on something un-cowled (maybe a big Stearman or Curtiss OX5). Seems a shame to cover up such a nice piece of hardware.

Hey, i have a 1/4 scale clipwing monocoupe also. I recovered mine to match a family friends full scale monocoupe that we lost to a fatal crash a couple years back. Just got the airplane done a couple days ago and it flew great once again ha. It actually flew hands off first flight with absolutley no trim added. I have a Zenoah G-26 on it with a sullivan Smoke system in it. Still havent had a chance to try the smoke out yet. The pump did not wanna pump the smoke im using probably due to the cold weather??? Any suggestions with this issue would be appreciated. And does anyone know if a G-26 puts out much smoke with the sullivan pump?? Thanks

I've got your setup on my Pacific Aeromodels Gee Bee Y and it puts out a respectable amount of smoke. I'd like more, but it's not bad. Test your pump on the ground with the line disconnected from your smoke muffler to see if it'll pump. Congrats on your first flight!

Ok i will do that. Thanks for the info. I really enjoy this plane! I had Probably atleast 1000 flights on this coupe before i had it recovered! It flies amazing. I appreciate the info.

Post some pics of your new covering job when you get a chance. I'd like to see it.

Looks GREAT! I am waiting on mine to be delivered, birthday gift from my kids and wife :-) I am looking for a motor closer to the 35cc range, or does the 26 pull it around good enough? Anything in the build to watch out for?
Thanks for any info you can offer,
Ron

Do a search on You Tube and RCU videos for this model. I saw a video showing how this model flies with the Zenoah G26 and I was satisfied with its performance. It didn't look under or overpowered at all. In fact, the videos that I found showing the CW Monocoupe ARF got me interested enough in the PAC AERO version to buy it.

The video on Pacific Aeromodel's site (www.pacaeromodel.com) shows the Clipwing with a G-26 magnito engine. It seems to have enough power to get wild and crazy it you want to.

I'v got one of the clipped wings and use the G26- -mag motor and it has plenty of power to goof around with. With the servos mounted in the rear for the elevators and the batt (2200ma) behind the tank, no weight was needed to balance it! I didnt like the generic flat dash, so I made my own to replace it. Looks "scale" now:D

Hey TooLow
Your shop looks like mine! LOL I like your panel.
I used the dash in the kit; it's where I mounted the on/off/charge switch and the panel for the Sullivan onboard ignition.

That's what I was trying to say. This is the video that cornvinced me to buy their ARF. Thanks. Don't mind me. I've got Haney's Syndrome (cornvinced).

LOL Ed. Maybe it's Mad Cow :)

My shop looks WAY messier than y'all's. In addition to the half dozen planes currently in various states of teardown/assembly/maintenance, there's a John Deere lawn mower laying in about 46,000 pieces.

Too Low - nice instrument panel. Mine looks about like Al's... charging jack and LED for the onboard glow and that's about it.

Love how this plane flies. I find myself taking it out more often than most. It does the most spectacular (and fastest) snap rolls I've ever seen. I can't get over how easily and slowly it lands.

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe

Really enjoying this thread. I've got a question for those who have assembled this Coupe. How difficult would it be to remove the covering and recover before assembly. Don't get me wrong. I think the yellow/red combo is beautiful, but I'm kind of close to the clip wing "Little Butch". It was flown to prominance by Woody Edmondson, an old friend and I promised him before he died that I would build one. I've got several plans for a clip wing 110, but have never built one and at my age, I need to get it done. Recovering this airplane might be the way to go. Don,t like the ailerons. Looks like if they were going to the trouble of designing, building, and producing an airplane they would have done a little better job in that area. Might be able to redesign the ailerons, but won't know untill the skin is off the wing. Enough of that. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Sure wish this ARF was a little larger.

Richard, I hated to uncover the "coupe' so I got one ordered a while back-ARC_ and am in the process of building "Lil Butch". If I can get some of the other projects cleared out of the way I will have a summer showing at the field! For those who dont know of "Lil Butch", here are some pic's

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe

Richard:

I asked Pacific about your comments. This is their reply.

As you may know, true scale models of the Clipwing Monocoupe have a reputation of being twitchy and hard to fly. In order to make our Clipwing fly like a sport plane, we had to make a lot of small deviations from scale.

Speaking specifically of the ailerons, the scale shape with the angled hinge line tends to induce tip stalling. The conventional shape that we used is very tip-stall resistant and allows the use of flaperons to slow the landings. Using flaperons with the scale shape ailerons would be a disaster
.

I guess if you want a true scale Little Butch, you will have to build it.

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe

TooLow and Jim,

Thanks for your replys. Jim, I had a thought that was the situation with the ailerons. Thanks for contacting them. Saves me from having to wonder about that or possibly trying to rebuuild the wing with disastrous results.

TooLow, did you have to twist some arms to get a RTC version? I wasn't aware that it was available. That would save a lot of time. Fill me in on how to get one. I kind of grew up with N36Y. My parents and Woody were class mates in rural Va. Woody's nephew taught me to fly at 16 in 1957. Woody would visit. My mother, aunt, and I would visit them. When Woody retired from active competition he brought the Coupe to the airport at home, Clover Va. I flew in it a few times while it was there. It stayed there until Woody sold it to Johnny Foil. Have some fond memories of that airplane. Send me some pics of the RTC and any info, etc.

Once again, thanks

Richard

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe

rcar4, I made some changes to my monocoupe. I still have the G-26 on it but i pulled my smoke system out and put a 18x8 prop on it. Now it has plenty of power. i can get two complete vertical rolls out of it after a pass. It performs awesome now. I wouldnt put anything but a g-26 on it. It flies perfect! I will try and take more photos of it soon and post them. I have a floorboard in mine covering all the radio gear so it looks pretty slick now. Good Luck with yours. Its by far my favorite RC.
