I am planning on using an MDS .68, problem is when I bought it (Off Ebay) NIB, the High Speed Needle was missing, so I am looking to get that.

Well it is all finished and balanced. Took it out to the field about 20 minutes away, and wouldnt you know...Forgot to charge my glow starter!!! I was so upset. But it was going to be its first flight and my son said "That happened for a reason", he is probably right. Oh well, first flight next weekend.

;) Hi, I am just putting the radio and engine in mine, I am using a Super Tigre 90 so that I can hopefully get it to hover.
The kit has gone together really well except some of the hardware is substandard i.e. the contron horns supplied in my kit had too large a hole for the clevises causing quiet a lot of slop so I replaced those. Also depending on the engine used you could end up with a large hole around the silencer because of the hole that is already cut in the cowl, mine balanced with an ounce of lead on the tail and the battery under the rearmost part of the cockpit floor weighing in at 7ibs 8ozs should be OK and if it fly`s as well as it looks it will be a winner. Will keep you posted on the first flights as and when they occur.

Hopefully I can get out there tomorrow and fly it. Supposed to rain though. Some powerful source is keeping me from flying this plane. No big deal, just picked up a TwinJet, so I can put that together. If I make it out I will get some video and pics.

Do you reckon an OS 91FX (2 stroke) will be too much for it?

The same weight as an OS 61FX, but about 2.8 horse power!

Just got the plane today looks fantastic great craftmanship but I have 2 questions.

1 On the cowl that comes with the kit it doesn't have the cut outs for the wheelstruts what did you do??

2 what do you do with the fuselage fairing concerning the wing bolt holes. Did you cut out the covering for these holes and have the wing bolts put pressure on the wing or did you set it up with the bolts pressing on the fairing cover???

I just cut the slots, because I had to remove the wheels every time I needed to remove the cowl. Check out my photo gallery and I think you can see the cut out. On the fairing, I removed the covering from the two holes with my soldering iron and made sure the wing was mounted straight and then glued it on the wing with 5 min epoxy. and those 2 plastic black bushings push into the 2 wing holes and the hold the 2 plastic wing screws in pretty tight. I used CA glue when I put in the 2 plastic bushings. This plane flies great, and my MDS .68 is more than enough power. If you need some pics let me know!

Ours has just arrived and cant wait to get at it and get it done.
Bought this one for my 12 year old son and he is going nut waiting for it to be finished and ready to cra.........oops....I mean fly.
So far everything looks fantastic and seem to be of great quality for the money invested.
The German manual is kinda silly, might be a problem for a beginner.
Will post any findings that seem out of order.

I am soooo glad someone has posted something about this plane. I have been looking at it for awhile and have been wondering if it was worth the trouble. A question I would ask is how it flies with the .91 size engine. I fly at altitude so I need as much power as I can get.

How does the quality of the kit compare? Other than the control horns, is the supplied hardware okay or would you recommend other changes?

I have been looking at these and wondering? Sounds like you guys are OK with quaility except for some minor hardware. I'm really waiting to see a post on how it flys?:o

Caution:

A friend of mine flew his the other day and the horizontal stab broke right at the fuselage. Of course it crashed but should be repairable, he was lucky it wasn't worse..

This stab is going to need flying wires, there is not enough support where it meets the fuselage
. There were no violent maneuvers when this happened.

I hope these aren't famous last words, but the stab doesn't look or feel particularly weak. The quality of build is excellent and the wood isn't very thin or soft.

I have mine almost finished now, so I suppose I should find out soon enough!

His looked really nice also and flew nicely for about 5 minutes.

I hope it's just a fluke, but the stab is fairly big and not air-foiled so it is doesn't have the thickness of an air-foiled stab sticking out from the fuselage. most flat stabs of any size are wired.

Regarding the tailplane failure of the Extra, I accidentally caught mine with my foot just as I was about to taxi out for it`s first flight and it broke along the fus. line where the film is removed for gluing so after I repaired it I decided to fit bracing wires to the top and fin and this has made it feel very secure indeed but the weather turned bad and I haven`t been able to test fly it as yet but will post when I have

I do have the GreatPlanes Extra 300s also but didn`t have any problems with that`s flying characteristics or structural integrity but I only had an OS46Fx in it so the structure which is very similar to the Graupner didn`t get as much stress in maneuvers as I am expecting with the SuperTigre 90 powered Graupner. :(

I just bought a kit too....

only one thing that im realy unhappy with is the finish on my wings.... the finish is not symetrical. But I think I can fix it with some gold trim tape like on the box cover.

That plane looks like it came out of the same factory that my Black Horse models extra 300 came out of!
differences I saw were.
BH 300 has shorter ailerons
the BH 300 wing has a cuff
BH 300 has a male pilot
different elevator linkage setup
other than that the planes look the same was it made in Viet Nam?

Im quite sure it comes from Vietnam.

The bags it is packidged in are 100% identical to all the seagull models I have. Even most of the hardware bits are the same too.
The wood is also of the smame kind. And the smell :-) It has that Vietnam ARF smell......not kidding.

But Graupner have made their own instructions set, and there is an update in the kit for support strut on the tail.

I havn`t seen the aluminum outher pushrod tubes for the elevator and rudder before, in the other seagull ARF`s .

Im getting a new wing from the store I ordered it from.

As I'm getting a bit nervous about my tail feathers falling off when I finally fly this thing, do you reckon I can get one of these upgrade kits? I presume it includes some form of 'hard point' for the rods to attach to?
