The Extra Fun is designed by world class pilots Roland and Wolfgang Matt www.matt-rc.li . Manufactured in czech for 3Whttp://www.3w-modellmotoren.de it comes ARF and is a real beauty. It is especially designed for the 3W24 and a special muffler system. By the way, it is a real "low noise system". The plane flies wonderfully on pattern AND 3D but it is a very lightweigt and fragile construction. You have to be very smooth and careful on the sticks. I dont know if they have done modifications on the fuselage and elevator yet but i´ve seen two of them cracking in the air during 3D maneuvers. Seems like they had to save a lot of structural weight with tribute to the use of the heavier gas engine with muffler system.

i´m not kidding. The man with the short trousers and the white shirt is Somenzini and the man left of him is Roland Matt. The picture is from a 3W supershow in mucke 2003. Believe it or not, they had 8 of them hovering for about 10 Minutes... They have a video from the 2002 show. Extra Fun or Diablotin? What a question - i´d prefer the Extra Fun, cause it can do anything. Diablotin is not the first choice. But i would talk to cactus if they have fixed the problem in tail section. They had definitly a number of planes cracking in the air.

rcman,
How much work does it look like in getting this one together? Did you get the package with 3w24 and canister muffler? Does it look sturdy and well built? How are the wheel pants and cowl? Where did you get it Aircraft Int'l or Cactus? Thanks for the info.

There's not much to putting it togather Just like an ARF the cool thing is that the cowl, motor mount are all marked so there is no guess work in cutting them out
I bought the complete combo kit with the 3w24 and canister muffler
There looks to be a weak point just behind the canopy that you can get to and reinforce but the rest looks very light and strong
The cowl is a little thin and weak as well as the wheel pants
I bought it from Cactus
I think it will be a good plane once I can get it togather and fly it
I will let you know

I am still flying it, I have about 50 or 60 flights on it
It is a very nice flying plane
The plane is build pretty light you need to take great care in landing, if you even think of boucing a landing, the landing gear will fall off, but other then that I love the plane
Are you thinking of getting one?
David

Well, it's tempting.. need to save my pennies first. I love the idea of a 78" gas plane that really performs....usually anyting in the 70" range is right on the border for gas/glow.
thanks for the response, will let you know if I decide to step up.

RE: 3W Extra-Fun

Hello
I loved this plane.... Extrafun 230 with 3W 50, But I lost it on the 3rd flight due to a structural weakness of the wing... below is the note I sent to 3W.... to be continued....

I`ve bought the 3W Extrafun 230 this summer from a fellow modeller. It was still in the box as an ARF. He had purchased from the Norwegian 3W dealer 2 or 3 years ago. However, it was a beautiful kit and it was a joy to finish. Great craftsmanship. I am aware that the plane is very fragile, due to the light weight and therefore you have to be cautious with the throttle. I have mounted the reinforcements to the firewall and also reinforced the landing gear saddle.

BUT today I lost my big bird on the 3.rd flight due to a structural weakness of the wing. I was cruising at a good altitude at idle, made a vertical dive 10-15 meters, still at idle.. and pulled the elevator to execute an “elevator” ….. we heard a crack and the left wing broke off the plane…… the plane was of course shattered, only minor damage to the radiogear and engine( broken L needle, carborateur air inlet scoop and broken prop) The rest of the crowd at the airstrip was watching in disbelief.

I do not expect any refunds for the work and all the minor damage, but I feel that this is a structural damage of the wing and hence not my fault…. I do hope that you will replace the kit or at least give me a good deal on a new one, because I really love this plane.

On further investigation after the crash the fibreglass socket was still on the aluminium wing tube, the fg socket had ripped apart from the rest of the wing. This wing came down like a leaf about 10 sec later than the rest of the plane, and was pretty good shape. The rest of the plane was damaged beyond recognition…

Best regards

Espen Mortensen, hopefully a future 3W customer…
