Convert to taildragger, keep removable stab?

I want to convert a stik type plane to a taildragger. It's a World Models Super Stunts 60 -- a tricycle setup and looks like a Great Planes Big Stick 60 with a bigger wing span. It has a horizontal stab which sits on the bottom of the fuse and is removable (3 screws + unclip the clevis attached to the elevator control horn). I'd like to convert this plane to a tail dragger with a steerable tail wheel but keep the removal stabilizer feature. I was thinking of rebuilding the stab as a split elevator to facilitate attaching the tailwheel to the rudder, but am not sure how the tail wheel assembly will work with the removable stab with or without the split elevator modification. Any ideas? I posted in another forum, but the tips I got involved solutions I don't want (eg, castoring tailwheel, skid rather than steerable tailwheel).

I'm not sure if I read your post right but what I did to a Hangar 9 Pulse was to add a Sullivan tail wheel and I used one of the mounting holes in the tail wheel and one of the studs that bolts on the tail. Works great.

You could attach a generic tail wheel unit TOO the bottom of the stab, doesn't matter where, that is front or back of the stab.

Pick a unit that has a duel control arm so you can use a "pull-pull" cable system to operate it, it's real easy.

Two cables run from your rudder servo out two holes in the bottom of the fuse a few inches in front of the stab, very simple and fool proof... no offence;) If you want details just PM me.

I make mine from U-control cable I bought at a flea market for 50 cents, two 50 foot rolls last a long time.

Tail draggers are fun, just remember to get off the elevator once the mains touch or it's back into the air you go.

Hi just converted one of these left the stab as it is but had to shift wheels forward by 2inches to get the balance right for tail dragger ran and extra pivot point in the fuse so that i could steer the tail wheel setup ,basically what I did was put a vertical 3/16 rod in attached two servo arms on it one for tail wheel and one for rudder with one feed back to the servo and worked on a pull pull system, I then took the skid of the back carved a block for mounting wheel and hey presto done then put a 90 motor on it maiden flight comes next week ho hum !!!!

Thanks to grimmy55, Carlos Murphy and rclement for responding.

Grimmy, Is the stab easily removable in your set-up? If it's not too hard, can you please post pictures of the set-up, including the extra pivot point, rudder servo and and tail wheel installation? Thanks again.
