WM Extra 300s
1 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
Am just showing off my World Models Extra 300s, It has been flown, now i have just added the finishing touches - custom Breitling signage! I have run in the Moki 180, its running sweet, still a little rich however, I have yet to try the new Bolly 19x8 prop (as shown). Thats my little show off! RJ |
RE: WM Extra 300s
Beautiful! Love this pattern, too and the custom signage is a nice touch.

RE: WM Extra 300s
very nice Kainisrj
I had one with a Moki 210 (20 x 10) up front, same colour scheme as yours. The only problem that I had with this model was the need for 20% rudder/elev K/E coupling. It snaps and spins like a dream though and lands like a trainer. Many happy flights to you. regards piroflip |
RE: WM Extra 300s
Thats guys,
Hey Piroflip - run me throught the rudder/elev/aileron coupling thing - I have been trying to get the run down on mixing - but seem to have trouble understanding it a little (i am a bit slow, haha) , so for example is it - mix a litttle same direction rudder with aileron? is there any elev mixed in to? What are the other combos? Thanks for the other comments!! RJ |
RE: WM Extra 300s
Hello
I just worked a deal for this same plane NIB. I had the Wagstaff about 3 years ago. I WAS A BEGINNER AT THAT TIME AND COULDN,T FLY IT. Not sure I can now but we'll see. My previous plane had a Zenoah g-45. My trainer pilot would put it up, hand me the tx and I did laps around the field, a roll every once and a while(when i wasn,t shaking), Then I would hand it back to him, He would ring it out and land. Ok, here's my main concern. I remember It landed very slowly and although he was a VERY good pilot whose speciality was TOTALLY scale landings that thing bounced for a hundred yards no matter how gently he touched it down. He finally started rolling it a bit at about 2' off the deck and touching 1 wheel at a time. I can fly(kinda) now but this will be my biggest plane to date since going solo. any advice on set-up to avoid this as well as building tips, engine and servo thoughts etc. would be very helpful. I know I want to go gas but really don't want the expense of something like a DA-50 on this (my) first timer. Also, I have very little knowledge and even less experience on the wiring for a gasser. Any advice for this rookie? Thanks, Rod |
RE: WM Extra 300s
I just finished my Extra and will hope to maiden it in a month or so... Actually this is my 3rd WM Extra 300, first 2 were the Patty Wagstaff colors, first had a Moki 1.8 and the 2nd had a Moki 2.10. The one with the Moki 2.10 flew awesome with tons of power and very light (14.5 pounds). Now the new one (purple and teal color scheme) with the DA is 16 pounds RTF and should be a rocket... cannot wait... My set up is a DA50 with slimline muffler, Metal gears on the tail and nylon gears on the wing (not sure if that is a good idea but will try it at first)… Rx battery, Rx and anything I can move back to the rear most edge of the CG (I like to fly my planes slightly tail heavy)…
balsafire, taken the facts that you wrote, the only advise I can give you is wait... You seem to want to run when you have not learned how to walk to your fullest. This is a large plane and if you cannot handle the unexpected that an experienced pilot can, can spell trouble to you, the plane and maybe some innocent bystander. Yes, this plane is easy to fly, land and take off and has no surprises, but hey you will NEVER know. Get you confidence up and when you are 100% ready then go for it, gas and giant scale are awesome… Just my $.02… Good luck… Hosam |
RE: WM Extra 300s
Hey Hosam
I guess I was too humble or tried to hard to be funny when I said "kinda". The Extra I had when I was a beginner was 6 years ago. Since going solo I have sucessfully built and flown such planes as the DPM ultimate, several .60-1.20 Extras, the Hanger 9 Corsair and Mustang, 2 .90 Super Chipmunks, 1.20 Laser 200 and have sheparded 2 beginners through soloing. It's just the going gas that is new. I have seen several of the 1.60 size Extras both World Models and GP fly and land and none of them exibited the bouncing I spoke of in my first post. I am at a loss for what caused this on my previous model. The G-45 doesn't seem far off from others I have seen. One guy at our field had a G-62 on his and it was the smaller GP Extra. I don't really fly 3-d. I prefer a more scale flying that emulates The full scale version of my models. If Patty Wagstaff ever touches her rudder to the tarmac in a hover I'll try it. Smoke on tumbles and perfectly axial rolls are what do it for me. Anyway, any setup tips especially on the wheels and gear as well as the electronics(i.e. battery size and type, switches, 1 or 2 reciever, power expander etc.) would be very helpful Thanks and happy flying, Rod |
RE: WM Extra 300s
Well then that’s a whole different thing… you didn’t say you were an expert…:)… My gas setup is as follows:
DA50, Slimline Pitts style muffler (non-smoke). Futaba standard servo for throttle (S3003) & choke (S3004). Futaba 3010 servos on Ailerons. Futaba 3305 servos on Elevator. Hitec 645 on Ruder. One Hitec Rx. NiCD Receiver battery, 1500 mAh (2/3 sub C size) 6-volts. NiMH Ignition battery, 1650mAh (AA size) 4.8 volts. Heavy Duty switches for ignition & radio system. Dave Brown 3.5” spinner. Pro Zinger 22x6 prop. Dubro large servo horns on all servos. Hanger 9 Titanium Pro-Links turnbuckles on AL & EL. Dubro Pull-Pull cables for RD. Dubro safety lock Kwik-Links on all push rod & pull-pull connections. Hanger 9 heavy-duty control horns on AL, EL & RD. Sullivan tail wheel assembly. Wheels, landing gear and the rest are all stock. I did not use the stock linkages or control horns but what is listed above was used. I moved that Battery and Rx as far back as I can under the hatch. I use a Futaba 9C so I did not need an expander, all the servos go to one of the channels on the radio. Channel 1, AL right Channel 2, EL right Channel 3, Throttle Channel 4, RD Channel 5, Choke Channel 6, AL left Channel 7, Battery Channel 8, EL left. Actually you can see it all here: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemID=270671]WM Extra[/link] Cheers Hosam |
