Modeltech, Magic or Magic Extra?
I am trying to decide on which airplane to drop my OS 46 into. I was going to buy a Flip, but after reading several of the posts I don't think this is enough engine. I have been flying for 15 years and am very confident with most sport models, but 3D has intrigued me and I want to start learning. Which of the modeltech models would you recommend?
Thanks! |
Modeltech, Magic or Magic Extra?
Hey Stan i have had both planes and used a 46 fx on both.. the engine is very well suited for etheir plane.. if you just want to try 3D then the magic fun fly is the one, but if you want alittle more versalatile plane the extra will do just about anything ...... my personal favorite is the extra

thanks for the input! I am leaning towards the Magic Extra myself, unless I hear something bad before I get a chance to order it. How should I prop the OS 46 for this type of flying? Thanks!!

well..
Can't miss with these 2-
The 11 x 4, 12 x 4, or 12.25 x 3.75 seem to be the most popular... I have a Magic Saito 50 combo that is about right > :D Keep us posted, james |
Modeltech, Magic or Magic Extra?
props
i use 12.25 x 3.75 and a 12 x 4 apc. both work well. i think your going to enjoy the extra the only problems that i found with it was that the firewall was pre drilled and the holes didn't even come close to lining up so i altered the engine mount to fit.. after completion the model came out very tail heavy and took about 3.0 oz in the nose to balance the model according to the plans. after flying the extra a few times i started removeing lead and i now have about 1.5 oz in it. The plans give a range of 3"-3 3/4" my personal oppinion is that the range should be alittle closer to 4"-4.25". again this just fit the type of flying that i enjoy i would reccomend starting in the reccomended range to start but i think you'll want to remove some wieght after a little while... hope this helps i know the magic has taken the # 1 spot in my hanger .......this plane will do some very good knife edges!!! |

Modeltech, Magic or Magic Extra?
You guys are propping the OS .46 with 12 inch props for this plane? Did I miss that or are you running four strokes? I am just finishing one of these but was planning on a 10x6 prop. I want to be able to hover and all that with it with either an OS .46 SF or a .46 FX. Am I under propping this engine for doing the 3D stuff with it? Thanks for any input.

12" props
you read it right. They are using 12 inch props but they are flat enough the motor doesn't mind turning them. Those O.S. 46's love the 12.25X3.75 and 12X4.

props
I use either a 10x5 or 11x4 both props work great for hovering and 3d styly flying. I use the 10x5 on my majic with great results and fast spoolup for 3d. I am using a tt 46 pro and I have a 40 also.
