Question for the Cub guys
Is the difference between the regular cub j3 and the Super Cub just the front end? I don't like the front ends of the J3 and the last decent Super Cub was DP and they no longer exist or whatever. I'm cusrious to take a healthy size WM J3 and get a Super Cub cowl made?

RE: Question for the Cub guys
Super cub cowls are available from Fiberglass specialties, I think. there are more differences than just the cowl; most noticeable ones are a slight difference in the shape of the vertical tail, and the super Cub (PA-18) has flaps.

RE: Question for the Cub guys
Another difference is that a J3 Cub tapers forward of the windshield to the firewall. A Super Cub is straight. Some cowl makers offer a Super Cub cowl to fit a J3 frame. Be sure to order the correct one for your plane, or at least be sure that what you order will work on your plane.

RE: Question for the Cub guys
If I remember correctly, the full-scale Super Cub also has a wider fuselage (more elbow room) and longer tail (fuselage behind the cockpit).

RE: Question for the Cub guys
The after market cowl makers do a good job, but they usually only copy a kit manufacturer's plastic original. The kit mfgr's do a lousy job keeping cowls truly scale. That is my opinion after purchasing one for my 1/5 scale cub. A notable exception is the Dave Patrick Supercub cowl for the 1/4 scale size. But getting one is impossible. [&o]

Dave Patrick still shows his super Cub on his web site.

There is also one minor detail that sometimes gets overlooked. The Horizontal Stab and the elevator are a little different as well.
