Start over

Hey whats up,here is the deal I haven't flown in about 4 years and I am kinda getting the itch again.I have flown several different kinds of planes I was a pretty good pilot back then,The question is should I get someone to buddy box me or is it like riding a bike

It's pretty much like riding a bike. I had a hiatus of about 8 years and got back into it fairly easily.

I would suggest for your own peace of mind, get on a Buddy box for the first flight to see how rusty you are.

I don't know........I broke my leg riding a bike once. Hope not to do it while flying r/c:)

If I went that long (4 and 8 years) without flying, I'd be bouncing around in a rubber room in some nuthouse.

Find some beat up trainer and take it out for a spin, you'll be fine

You mustn't be married with children then - Combine that with the lack of flying and you will see why we are all our own "special" people:D

I'd have to agree with a few of the other people; it's like riding a bike:D.

It is nice discussion and what was not said yet is that You have to get either your Wife/Girl to be a kind of
RC-fun, build an Airplane for her and train secrectly in the night with the simulator becasue she might learn
quite quickly and become better pilot... If have kids, then doing RC now is a good preparation to rise them
a bit ... away from the Computers, which is pretty good idea I hope some might agree with me.

yeah, married 16 years, with 14 and 9 year old girls. That's why I have to have an "outlet" to maintain my sanity. I love 'em, but they care nothing for r/c; they are both into competitive dance (which is fine with me, they are as devoted to it as I am to flying, and I enjoy their dance, too). In a way, my older daughter can fly, too:

Have you tried to take the whole or part of the family to Aerobatic show of real big Exra-300, Pits, Ultimate,
etc. similar, where those big guys perform on Music in Air - It is a very nice Dance in the Air and very
impressive for many millions of non-RC people; how about winning a bit more support or at least more
undestanding that way at home for your RC-hobby ?

RE: Start over

Just to add - your dauther picture shows a real advaced performance, CONGRATUALTIONS ! - That is lot more
difficult than any RC flying; thus she might be right in her interests !!!

Yes - Family is so important and them finding something they enjoy and are good at is just the best. I'm lucky - my two sons love flying and are quite good at it. (now if only I can get them to do, and care about, the maintenance and tidying up of the Hangar:D)

Well, I was real active from about '74 to '86, then no flying from '86 until last year. Bought an Alpha Trainer and the first time I took it to the field I had one of the guys take it off for me, then I flew it around for a while and landed it. Haven't looked back since. Got about 6 planes in flight status. Having a ball. So I'd say "bicycle". LOL

I was a pretty good flyer back in the early 80's and got back in 20 years later.I had taught myself how to fly back then so I just went for it.Just like riding a bike.I was nervous but played it safe and didn't have any problems.

RE: Start over

After ten years out I just stood on the flightline (on my own), wacked the throttle open and it was just like old times.
It was only later that I got my first sim. With the help of the sim I fly better now than I ever did in my youth.
