ok, I saw this thing sitting over in the corner of the LHS for a few weeks all alone. Then I saw one fly today with an O.S. 70 on it. It flew great and I decided this would be my everyday beater plane.

So I got a Saito 91 and I am ready to set this all up. Looking for info or suggestions on setting up dual servos in the wing - is it worth the trouble?

I will have pull-pull on the rudder, but I want to place the servos at the tail and get rid of the long dual push rods. Anyone tried this?

Also how much weight did you have to add if you used the 91 size engines, and where did you add it (ie..tail)

Thanks

Spock,

I did see your post. How did you mount the dual servos for the Ailerons? Did you mount them in the center where the original was or outboard.

How did you mount the dual elev servos, curious as to how you beefed the area up, and how it's holding. What brand are the HS225 servo's not familiar with them. I use mostly Futaba, but I do have a couple extra Hitec BB's I might use.

If you have some pics of the wing and servo mounting I would like to see them. I can add ply on the outside of the fuse, but not sure how to mount some on the inside, or if it's needed.

Thanks

I too had considered that Ultimate, and ended up going with a magic 3d instead (had all the small stuff required for that, so it was the cheaper route for me)

Here is a great review on the ultimate, along with the mods the writer made, and some assembly shortcuts, hints, etc

He had no problem balancing with a 91 magnum 4 stroke.

Good luck, and post pics

Steve

Magnum,

The 225 is a Hitec Mini Servo rated at 62 Oz on 6 volts. There is a bulk head in the rear just in front of the stab. I used 1/8 lite ply and formed a piece that would butt up agaisnst this bulkhead and followed the curve of the fuse. I then cut out the servos holes so that I had a 1/4 inch space from the bulk head. This will place them where the existing push rod holes are now located. I then added a 1/8 piece of ply 1/4 in wide on the outside of the balsa then mounted the servos in the normal fashion. Full size servos would be a problem as I had to use the ply on the outside for two reasons one to get a straight shot at the controls and two to get the servos not to hit on the inside of the fuse. On the wings I made 3/32 light ply ribs following the contour of the existing ones. I centered the servos to the ailerons and then butted one new ply rib with the existing one and then centered the other one between the ribs. I used 1/4x 1/4 maple blocks for the rails. I mounted the servos upright again using the 225 Mini's. You could build a mounting plate and a hatch to mount them sideways if you wanted. I did not take any pictures when I was doing all of this so all I have a ones of the finished product. I hope this makes sense if not I can try and do some drawings to forward via email.

Stevezero,

I saw that article also. At least I know the plane will fly good with the 91. I may wait to make all the changes. Since the idea of getting this plane was to get it in the air fast.

Spock,

A flying friend had those servos in the tail of a Dirtie Birtie the otherday. Not bad little servos, didn't remember the number though.

I haven't measured it yet, but I did suspect the servos were to large for the rear. Oh well off to the LHS, may pcik up a few anyway.

Thanks, The info has helped.

Randy
