Seagull Arising Star 40

I've been reading the posts on the Seagul PC-9 and their Extra. this past week, I saw their trainer ARF in one of the LHS's here. It looks pretty complete and little to do to finish it. It has all of the hinges already in place and pinned along with the pushrods installed arlready. Has anyone else put one of these things together? How does it fly? Any info will be appreciated. It is only $89.95.

we have several seagull planes they are great for the price and getting better and better all the time so don't be scared to try one , we have many trainers at our club and the seagull does just fine.

One of my early trainers was an Arising Star. Thought it was a well built ARF and flew well. It was an even nicer plane after I turned it into a tail dragger. I did that conversion because supplied landing gear was pretty soft and was getting fed up with it bending all over the place. I took care putting the wing together and although I never really stressed the plane, the wing came apart right in the middle. I buy the occasional arf and now fiberglass tape the wing joint, always. FWIW

Thanks for your replies, but I have a few more questions. The servo tray is held by two screws, is it a good idea to go ahead and glue it in after the servos are attached? I had trouble with the landing gear also. The forward bar wouldn't fit in the front slot so I opened it a little with a file. Should I just replace the thing with an after market unit? Thanks for your replies in advance.

the servo tray is fine but like all wire type landing gear, so so. i will replace it with a good aluminum type or the new graupner plastic, we have several and great product.

muffinman, the piano wire on mine was "soldered" very badly when I got it. I took off those little copper piano wire connectors and soldered it properly by wrapping copper wire round it first.
While I was at it, I converted it to a taildragger.

Regarding the CG, anyone have strange flying characteristics when using the recommended balance poiint (ie too much up elevator required for level flight)??
