Witch arf trainer for fast assembly and quality?
Looking for a little info from some of you
who have had more time in the hobby, witch trainer do you think has the quality and the most easy or quickist assembly time in an ARF top wing trainer? Lets keep the engine size in the os 40 to the osfx46 size and price up to $150.00 area. I guess I should also include the larger ones also in the osfx61 engine size just in case there is a good one in the larger top wing trainers. Thanks, Air Hawk How do you rate for example the RCM GLOBAL ARF witch is suppose to be a quick build arf? |

I could make recomendations, but frankly, I haven't seen a bad ARF trainer recently. The RCM is goo, the Tower, Hobbico, and Hanger 9, are all good. I personally look to World Models first for any ARF, and their trainer is verry nice.
Check with the LHS, see what they have. In the 40 range, $150 will get you anything out there, most are right at 100. Gordon |

I'll second the World Models World Star 40 trainer.
Just a word of warning though. I found building my first ARF a bit of a challenge - harder than I imagined it would be. I think most instructions assume some knowledge, so don't be afraid to ask for help. In fact I would make that the #1 criteria for choosing a place to buy your first plane plane - will these guys help me if i get stuck. I bought my first plane from a little hobby shop where the staff spent a few hours getting my first plane sorted out - all part of the service. Good luck Peter |

Some instructors {including myself} no longer use trainers with flat bottom wings. Semi symmetrical wings respond faster, don't ballon in wind, have basic aerobatic ability, and in general fly better. I would recommend the Kangke Astro or the Avistar. :)

comment from air hawk
Just want to say thanks for some of the
info I have read from my opening thread. My first trainer arf was the sig LT-40 and it was a great flying plane. I was close to solo after flying well on a buddy box but on my solo flight I made to fast of a turn causing it to stall because I had not got up enough air speed for such a sudden turn and it was so low my trainer could not recover it in time either so it stuck like an arrow in the ground doing big time damage. I really like the plane but if you have never had any type of experince at all like me it was a while before I got it all together. The good thing is once you have done it once the next time will be much simpler to do. A big help would have been an adjustable engine mount instead of the one that came with it. I may try another one and finish my solo with it. I have a tower 40 I have almost completed but I know already it will not compare to the sig lt-40. The other mistake I made was I used an OS 40 LA engine and I should have gone to the OS FX 46. My instructor said if I had the extra power he may have saved the plane. The 40 will fly it but you need plenty of take off room to get air born . Thanks for your info AIR HAWK |

Look at the Hanger 9 Easy 2 VRTF 40 trainer. I have had mine for a year now and it has held up nicely. The os 40 la will work fine, for i have that engine on the plane. Plenty of power if you know how to use it and don't wait till the last minute. That was the first plane i ever built and it took me all of about 60 minutes to build which included glueing the wing which i suggest. With building experience you could easily throw one together in 35 minutes.
Main gear is strong. Nose gear on mine hasn't bent yet. Really tough plane, it can be literally trown out in the garage when your not flying it. (i wouldn't do that) but the thought was there. You will have a ball with this plane for $99 |
