Twist 40 construction suggestions...

Hi all! I'm receiving my Twist 40 ARF on Monday and will be constructing it throughout next week. I have a new OS 55 AX that I'll be installing in the completed kit, and I'm concerned about any weak points in the kit's design that could use some reinforcement. What areas require reinforcement in this kit? Is there anything about the kit that I should consider modifying(like receiver & fuel tank placement, etc.)?

Any advice you can provide would be much appreciated, because I want to build it right the first time and have a great flying aircraft.

JC,

No mods necessary on this plane. I have several of them myself. The only thing you may want to consider is strengthening the area behind the canopy. If you look inside the plane with the wing off, you will notice that right behind the canopy there is a point where only 2 small pieces of ply are holding the plane togethor. What several guys have done is epoxy popsical sticks across those 2 spots to strengthen them. I did this after my plane snapped in two after a very hard landing. I haven't had a problem since.

You can save about 3 ounces by switching from the stock wheels to light foam wheels. I would use 12.25x3.75 APC prop with the .55. You are going to love that motor on this plane. Hope you enjoy it!

I have owned a Twist for the past two years. It has hundreds hard 3D flights with absolutely no structural problems. I did not use the supplied CA hinges however, I used blue CA hinges made for giant scale planes. The blue hinges are much stronger and can take thousands upon thousands of bending cycles without breaking. Several of my other Hangar 9 planes with the stock CA hinges have broken from time to time. If you are not going to fly this plane hard, the stock hinges will work fine.
