H9 Cap232/Moki 1.8 question
 

Hi, question for you guys: How does Moki 1.8 go with H9 Cap 232? Any balancing issues? I would imagine the power would be more than adequate? Any installation issues?

It might end up a little noseheavy with the Moki 1.8. I mounted two servos in the tail for the elevator so I didn't have to use lead to balance it out.

The top of the engine will contact the side of the cowl so you might have to cut a hole in the fiberglass.

I thought these Caps were pretty tail heavy out of the box and it took some serious weight up front to balance them?

my two h9 caps balanced out perfect with no added weight. i have heard of tail heavy caps but i haven't seen it.with the moki you may be nose heavy. i would move the servos and battery as far rear as is practical. remember to keep it lite. you are already 10oz. heavier compared to the os or saito .

You better side-mount the Moki, or you will be most unhappy. It will not start inverted. You also need to have a smooth transition from high to low throttle. If it has any hesitation before going to idle, the trim is set too high. That will make it difficult to land, as it will now slow down quick enough.

You will also have to fly it in for landing and I would not recommend any violent maneuvers.

Respectfully,thats all not true.I have this plane with an inverted Moki.Yes you either have to use an electric starter or invert the airplane to PRIME it.It starts fine and runs fine inverted.Mine idles like a watch without glow heat.I use a sullivan dynatron with 24 volts,starts it no problem.The airplane balanced perfectly with no added weight,and the servos in the stock spot.All transitions are flawless,the plane hovers 1/2 throttle,and will power out vertically easily.It also slows to a slow jog to land!! :eek: I live near Allentown,and will gladly demonstrate all of this to you.Also,the invertad installation is very clean and good-looking.

Same plane, same motor. The Moki 1.8 LOVES an APC 18x10. I have tried many props and this is the one.

Erik. make sure and get the wide blade IMAC style APC prop. The regular thin blade version has almost ZERO air braking ability. One of my flying buddies with a H9 Cap and 2.0 Sachs on it tried one. Had a TERRIBLE time trying to land as the plane would not slow down. He had been flying a wide blade Zinger prop which he went back to.
