Help me with my DP Ultimate
 

I have a 40 size Dave Patrick ultimate. Something is not right
with it. I have a 46 engine and I built it from a arf kit.
I have been flying about two years, so I have some experience.

Here is the problem, The plane is balanced according to the book and is slightly nose heavy. She flys fine with the engine running.
but if I lose power and if she ever gets in a nose down position
I can not pull her out, eventually hitting the ground at about 45 degree angle.

Today I went up and got up three or four mistakes high and when I cut power, she has no elevator control and I have way
more throw than the book recommends. In order to land I must
land at haft throttle and cut power at the last min.

Can anyone help?

It sounds like it's nose heavy, even though it's balanced according to the directions. I've never flown a bipe, so maybe someone with some experience will chime in.

Also, if you haven't already tried, run a search. Maybe people with the same plane have had the same problem.

Mike, Thanks for your reply. I have talked to a couple others and
they think your right about being nose heavy. I am going to move some wight around and fly again today. I just hope I can get it right, before its to late.

You are very nose heavy!


Move some weight back and back the throw off on the elevator, it will become sensitive as the CG goes back.


Are you sure you are using the proper method to balance......bipes are tricky!


Be glad you are nose heavy and not tail heavy.....the results would be a lot worse!

Sounds nose heavy to me as well. I have heard several folks say their DPM Ultimate 40 took nearly full up elevator to land at low speeds until they moved the CG back some.

Flaps may also help this situation some if you have a radio capable of such. The flaps on a bipe tend to push the nose up when they are deployed. In fact some down elevator is usually mixed in to keep 'em level with the flaps down.

My DPM Ultimate 40 is nearly ready for it's maiden flight. If you don't mind post here where you move the CG to get it flying correctly.

Thanks, guys y'all were right she was nose heavy. I had to put almost 2 oz in the tale. She flights great now.

If you are putting one together make sure you get the CG right.
It almost cost me mine!

What is the CG set to now with the addition of 2oz of tail weight?

Mine is nearly ready for it's first flight.
