Arf trainer .60 size suggestions needed
 

Hi everybody.........I am the V.P. of my local club (Fort Bragg Fogbusters).

I was discussing with another club officer the purchase of a new CLUB TRAINER.

I have been asked to be the instructor because our usual instructor is retiring from the job.

We have a OS .61 fx 2-stroke engine..............and would like to find a suitable ARF to put it in.

We Like the 80" wingspan SIG KADET SENIOR as one option.

ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!!

WE WANT IT TO BE:

1. TOUGH
2. QUALITY COVERING MATERIAL. MONOCOTE/OROCOVER/ULTRACOTE etc.....
3. .60 SIZE HIGH WING TRAINER.
4. BIG IS GOOD.
5. TRYCYCLE GEAR.

How about a rtf plane like a Hobbico Hobbistar 60 which comes with everything and an O.S. 65 LA engine.

Our club has three trainers and they are all .40 sized. We have a Sig Kadet, an Alpha .40 from Hangar 9, and one more that is a cessna type trainer.

I personally learned on a Nexstar and I loved it.

The Global Right Flyer 60H is a pretty nice trainer. It sells for about $140.

I had one of these for about 2 years. It survived a lot of abuse before I finally killed it.
It has a 71 inch wind span, with semi-symmetrical airfoil. It does not have a lot of dihedral, so it doesn't have as much "self recovery" tendency as some trainers. With buddy boxes, and good instructors, I'm not sure that's a negative. One of my instructors (Bill) was a pattern competitor. He could make this plane do a lot, and it looked pretty good doing it. My aerobatic attempts didn't look as good as his, but I feel like I learned a lot using this plane. Bill often told me, "If you give it xxx control input to start a maneuver, you typically owe it opposite input at the end." He doesn't like depending on the plane level to itself.

Thanks for the link Carrell..........Well we decided on the SIG KADET SENIOR.
Ordererd it from the LHS......The owner is part of the club, and will do us right for the things we need!!!

Make it easy with good quality and less expense and get the Hangar 9 Alpha trainer 60 size, and whatever extra radio you have around

I've never heard a bad word (or read anything bad) about the Senior. And it is bigger (easy to see) than the others.

Good choice

Excellent Choice. My first time flying an RC plane was with a Kadet Senior. The person who was flying it just handed me the Tx. No buddy boxes in those days. He talked me through anything I needed to know. It was a great low-stress introduction to RC.
