retract Q
I dont know much about retracts and im getting a cmp 120 spitfire here http://www.nitroplanes.com/spitfire120.html . It says can be fitted with 90 degree rotating retracts. Iv been shoping retracts and i dont know the diff between non rotating and rotating retracts. I thought i understood it as the wheels rotated as they come up but by the look of this spitfire they dont need to rotate, looks like they would just fold strate up. I dont understand why it calls for rotating retracts on the model or i dont understand rotating and non rotating. Thank you.... Tony

RE: retract Q
What you have here is group of people who know nothing about R/C importing and selling models. Looks to me like it needs standard 90 degree retracts.
Check here for the same model from someone who at least has a clue: http://ak-models.com/mm5/merchant.mv...Code=GAS90_160 |
RE: retract Q
Thanks, AK models looks like a good site. So does this spitfire only need non rotating retracs? Was my idea of rotating and non rotating right? For ex. a corsair would need rotating because they fold strait back and the wheels would have to rotate 90 deg. to lay flat under the wing?

RE: retract Q
Rotatiing generally retract fore and aft, like the underside of a corsair. Regular 90 degree go lateral like a P-51. When the gear comes down on the rotating, it starts off sideways and rotates into a normal position. Regular 90degrees just come down and your fine.
One area I don't like much is many rotatings use a bellcrank. You really need to get a smooth setup with a bellcrank or there will be binding issues. Regular 90's are very basic and not many problems |
RE: retract Q
Thanks. so does the spitfire in my initial post... '' http://www.nitroplanes.com/spitfire120.html '' need rotating or nonrotating retracts? Regardless of there recommendations. Thank you......

ORIGINAL: tonywayne Thanks. so does the spitfire in my initial post... '' http://www.nitroplanes.com/spitfire120.html '' need rotating or nonrotating retracts? Regardless of there recommendations. Thank you...... Beats me, I'll take a look------yes, 90 degree rotating. its in the fine print between the large photos. It says it can be fitted, I don't know if the linkage is already in it or what. Why don't you try and ask in a separate thread titled Nitro Spit and see who has one. I set up a couple planes for friends with the rotating. The bellcranks are the area to get right. I even Installed an access door on them to make it easier to fix problems |
RE: retract Q
Looks like you need 90 degree NON rotating retracts

RE: retract Q
Yeh he's right, the description says one thing but the photo of the underside shows another
|
RE: retract Q
Yup. Non-rotating.
One of our members has one of these. Nice plane, albeit it really need larger wheels... something that is not hard to mod. Have a look at getting a set of Robarts with possibly the struts for a more scale look. The installation will also be FAR easier... Too bad that AK doesn't tell you about this either. |
RE: retract Q
thank you
