DP extra 330 first or second run kits
 

Has anybody moved the cowling forward 3/4" to 1" to balance out rear mounted servos? I have a thought to extend the cowling to the beginning of the lip of fuse (on either side)and I can still match the ultracote stripes this way. I will then have to add filler around the gap between top of fuse to cowl and bottom of fuse to cowl. Im just wondering if this will give me enough forward CG with an OS 1.6?? This will allow the engine further forward. I know the latest kits have the wing tube rearward at least an inch or inch and half to help with CG. Im just taking it the opposite way? Any thoughts? Anyone tried this?

Why not just mount the elevator servo forward and use pull-pull( as is suggested). Save a servo and a little weight. I have it with the OS 160FX and I don't remember where the CG came out but it was far enough forward to need to add a little tail weight. BTW use a APC 18x6w and it will do it all (well almost).

Flyhard, thanks for your reply! I thought about that, but I guess I just like the idea of rear mounted servos. I was going (and may still) to put a G-45 on the nose, which will balance things out as is. As a matter of fact, its completely plumbed for the G-45. Im now considering putting the OS in it, and dont want to change my servo arrangement. So, I thought about extending the cowling forward and believe it or not, it will mate perfectly with the stripes on the side of fuse! I will have to add new cowl blocks for fasteners. I think this mod could be done, and keep with the rear servos. But then again, Im tired of mods, and the planes just about ready to go with the G-45, so I may just keep with the orignal plan.

I know a flyer that has a DP and really had a hard time balancing with the OS 1.6, even with the elevator servo mounted up front in Pull pull.

With a G-45 it might be heavy. Mine is from the very first batch and came in at 13.5 lbs with the 160FX. I just got a YS 140DZ I am going to try on it. I really liked it with the OS 160 but it does not accerate fast enough to suit me. Hope the DZ does the job.

Yeah, the planes coming in at 16 pounds easy. I have seen a DP 330 fly well with a fuji 50. Just was thinking about a last thougt before completion as I have an OS 1.6 sitting on the shelf. The g-45 fits perfectly and looks good on the plane, meaning size in relationship to plane.

A friend of mine has a WM 300 Extra with a G 45 in it, and it came out slightly nose heavy. Has plenty of power. Flys all day at half throttle or less.

Thanks for the replys guys! You know, Im going to go against the grain, and keep the G-45 in it! Looks good, it balances just the way it is and Im just going to go for it! I spent so darned much time on this kit (all the mods for possible flutter and also some mfg. fixes) Im ready to call it a day and go flying! I hope to get it in the air soon! I will report my experiences with the G-45 once I get it airborne.
