Control horn/hinge combo?
I just received a new CMP Extra 300S 140 size, 72 1/2" ws ARF. They have added an addendum to the manual (which isn't as bad as some say CMP's are) that shows something I've never seen before. They have done away with the CA hinges, and all control surfaces have updated Robart style hinges, but instead of attaching the control horn to the flight surface, the horn is a part of the hinge. The corresponding control surface is already notched to accept the horn. It is mated to the hinge right behind the hinge point. Think a Robart with the horn mated to the trailing edge of the hinge. It sounds like a good idea, but there will considerable stress on the hinge point, won't there? I can think of good and bad points to this, but what do you guys think? If you're unclear on the visual, let me know and I'll scan the page and post it.
BTW, its around (so they say :eek:) 12 lbs. No 3D for me, thank you, just aerobatics. And there's going to be a Saito 220 up front, along with lots of glass, pins, and tri-stock!! |

Robart used to do this also...they called it their "horny hinge point". I like the idea and have used these in the past. I can't see any problem with them, myself.
